The Zoup......

So, you've had a taste of the "Zoup" and I'd like to say Thank You! I blogged about these great guys the other day and already, the hits keep coming in and people are asking me for more about them.....
I aim to please and I'll do what I can to give you what you asked for. You wanted to know about the boys of the band.....and I'm here to deliver! Simply Delicious Lingerie, with much respect and admiration, gives you the guys from Auckland, New Zealand.
Meet the Band......

JD (Jaydn)
Jaydn is Mr. Singer. He writes the vocals to the songs, and if anyone else tries to suggest vocals he has the power to either accept the suggestion (on a good day), or give the person crap about the shitty quality of their lyrical abilities and straight out reject them. The man has a way with words and generally us guys leave him to it cause he delivers the goods.

JD is also the rhythm guitarist. He has recently invested in a sexy looking Gretch Pro Jet guitar, it's shiny and black with a pearl style pick guard, mini humbuckers. Kind of a Les Paul shaped body. It makes him look twice as good as before, and we're looking forward to showing it off on the stage soon!

While he's not doing band activities, JD studies Audio Engineering at SAE Institute in Parnell along with Dave (me). It's a choice as course so far and we're learning heaps about sound, recording, and music in general and I'm sure it will be great for the band to have some audio engineering experience down the line. JD also currently works part time at Dick Smith to finance his V addiction.

Possibly JD's favourite band is Circa Survive, he's a big fan of singer Anthony Green who was also a founding Saosin member.

Dom (D-dawg)

A lot of The Zoup's guitar riffs and tunes flow from Dom as his gentle but precise fingers glide smoothly around the neck of his Reverend Jet Stream guitar. The passionate expression on his face says it perfectly - it's all about the music for this guy. Dom's newest asset is his awesome High Gain 50W tube amplifier by Hi Watt, which seems to generate a great clean tone as well as an excellent distortion sound. There's plenty of customization and playing around to do on this two channel amp and Dom laps it up.

When not banding around, Dom works for a secret government company inputting dull information into computers and talking to SME's about help with funding. I wonder what he looks like in a tie? Probably great. I think that's just for this year, but there are so many opportunities out there for a man of Dom's caliber, even in these tough recessive times. Dom graduated from Auckland Uni with a Bachelor of Commerce (International Business) a few years back, then traveled the world, then finally got down to business with the band in mid 2008.

One of Dom's big guitar heroes is John Frusciante, guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He's also pretty big on Queens of the Stone Age, Smashing Pumpkins & the Mars Volta to name but a few bands.

Tom (T-bone)

Tom is an interesting character. He can seem quite tame and shy at times, but he will surprise you with his out-of-the-square comments and jokes, confuse you with his questionable fashion and dazzle you with his on-stage antics. Tom is about to invest in a nice new bass guitar, and we look forward to doing some shopping and exploring the options as he works towards finding the most ideal one for the job.

In his red car, Tom likes to listen to super produced screamo / post-hardcore bands with plenty of double-kick action. His sub woofer and the random cardboard box with the basketball in it take up the entire boot of his car, making it a near useless contribution to the bands transportation requirements.

Tom is in his final semester at Auckland University finishing up his Engineering degree. It will be sweet when Tom is finished, hopefully he can engineer the band some cool stuff.

Tom has many friends, both online and offline.

Dave (me, third person styles)

Dave is the drummer, and has been a type of stand in manager for The Zoup (and still is), keeping the band organised and trying to figure out how the music industry works. Dave plays a Gretsch Renown Maple drum kit with a Gun Metal finish. It's a great looking kit, and sounds awesome. Recently Dave has started looking into the possibility of learning some Jazz drumming to really work the coordination and speed and keep things interesting, but he's a rocker at heart and loves a solid chorus.

As mentioned earlier, he's studying Audio Engineering at SAE with JD. Last year he graduated from AUT with a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) and a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation. Working part time as a teachers aid and also as a drum teacher, Dave likes to mix it up.

Some bands in the Rock genre that Dave's into include Breaking Benjamin, Shihad, Third Eye Blind, Queens of the Stone Age, but he really enjoys listening to a mixture of genres to develop his overall understanding of music. Most recently there have been flirtations with the Blues genre.
