Oh Baby,....Baby

So happy the moment when we give birth to our children and look into their beautiful eyes....everything rushes to surface,..the emotions, the joy....and then the worry of how we're going to get our girlie figures back? First off, let me say this gals....it took 9 months to put this weight on whether it was 10 pounds or 50 pounds, so it isn't going to come off over night. Sure you'll drop 10-12 pounds of it right after childbirth, but don't ask you partner/spouse to bring your favorite outfit to the hospital to wear home because sweetheart, chances are it isn't going to fit! Don't be sad....enjoy this wonderful new life, let it be your only happiness for a while and then do what I did for the next 25 years....blame the weight gain and disfigurement of your body on your child (children)! My kids laugh now as they are older than 25 and still hear me saying "This was all your fault..." when in fact, it was my fault. I was the one that didn't work harder to get my shape back, and my eating habits were and awful. We live and we learn. My advice to women who just gave birth and need a quick fix? There isn't one......

Unfortunately, there is no secret of weight loss after pregnancy. It is just important to remember, that it takes approximately the same time, as weight gain during the pregnancy period. This means, if you have put on the average 22-30 pounds during your pregnancy period, then you would need about 8 months to get rid of them.

There are some key points in getting your body back into shape, after giving birth to your baby.

1. Breast Feeding
A good natural way to lose weight is if you breast feed your baby. During the pregnancy period, your body prepares for breast feeding and puts on about 200-500 extra calories per day. Don't rush to start a diet during the first 2 or 3 months after giving birth. Your body would lose the extra saved calories in natural way, if you breast feed your new born baby. Don't miss taking advantage of this.

2. Develop a healthy dieting plan.
No matter whether you have changed your eating plans during pregnancy period or not, you have to concentrate on a healthy nutrition now, in order to lose the extra pounds effectively. Focus on fresh food - fruits, vegetables and whole grains. A low-fat milk, yogurt and low-fat cheeses are also very proper for this period. And make sure under no circumstances you make the following mistakes:
  • go for a crash diet
  • eat junk food
3. Exercise.
Make sure you don't rush into an exercising program. You should wait at least 6-8 weeks before starting regular exercises. Start slowly, with about 10 minutes a day, and it is recommended to start with light aerobic exercise, also walking, swimming or stationary cycling. Later you can increase your daily exercise activities up to 30 minutes. You could also include your baby in this, meet other new mothers, and walk your baby together. Won't it be just perfect?

4. Diet supplements
If you however want to accelerate the process of losing the weight, you've gained during your pregnancy period, you could include diet pills to your diet and exercise plan. Check with your physician before you take anything.

Don't get depressed if the weight comes off slowly....enjoy the time with your bundle of joy and get your schedule back on track. Your eating habits will become enhanced and you'll begin shredding the pounds.
