Dating,....Oh the Anticipation

Anticipation is the spice, the zest and the thrill of life....well, at least to most it is....but what about those who fear the "first date?" What do they do? Fear not.....just think back.......When we were little kids, sometimes the anticipation of opening all those beautiful wrapped presents around the Christmas tree was almost as evicting as doing the actual unwrapping, or the anticipation leading up to a special trip to the amusement park or zoo was nearly as exciting as the experience itself. Mine was the "Sweet 16" birthday where my parents surprised me with a party inviting all of my friends to celebrate this special day.....Back then we saw anticipation in an innocent, easy kind of way, short, sweet and simple.....then we began to grow up.....things, and life although they appear differently all revert to those same butterflies that we get when we are anxious to see someone....Oh to be young again,...life was not so difficult then and boys didn't really matter like they do now. Puppy love seemed so sweet next to the cut throat, fight for your man type love we experience today, and the chase only included the boy riding to your house on his new 10 speed bike to beat the other guy to your door step first, not hauling ass across town to pick you up in his shiny Porsche Boxster! Everything is exciting......whether it was your first sweetheart dance or a date with a man most only dream of spending an evening with.

That's all because of anticipation. When we anticipate something, we have thought about it for so long that it actually enhances the experience when it happens.
If you want to make your date or your girlfriend a very happy girl then you need to use anticipation to your advantage all of the time. What exactly does that mean? It means many things. It means sending a text to her early in the day telling her that you can't wait to see her that night. It means holding her hand and looking her in the eye with that special look all through dinner so she knows exactly what you have anticipated for later that night - just for her and in society today....texting has become a staple form of communication and its influence in realm of dating shouldn’t be underestimated; the way you handle it with a potential love interest can make or break your connection. Text messages have a certain power that talking on the phone lacks; they force the recipient to read in between the lines to interpret your meaning without seeing your face or hear your voice and they also require no immediate response. This allows for time to consider witty responses or allows you to hold off on replying in order to build anticipation. So many dating sites and places to meet the right one. Is her/she really out there? How long must a person wait? Listen my friends...

Haven't you ever heard that good things come to those who wait? Well it counts double in relationships. If you set the mood and the scene and don't rush your relationship, you will find it more fulfilling and satisfying than you could have ever dreamed. Anticipation is that feeling the girl gets when she likes you and you say you are going to call her on Thursday to arrange your date and she is checking her phone every five minutes that day waiting for that message from you. (Personally I do not recommend this....ladies, do not check your phone every five minutes,....that drives me nuts! I know, it can be like sitting on pins and needles,...try to be patient!)

So how do you build anticipation? Well you let her know during the times you are apart how much you are looking forward to seeing her and hanging out together again. It is a simple message that creates tension - in a good way - between the two of you as you eagerly await your next meeting.
For every woman it is different, but you can surely think of some ways to add some anticipation to your life and relationship. For instance, you can hint early on in the evening that you have a great bottle of champagne waiting for the both of you at your apartment once you are done with dinner and dancing.
Sometimes it can be a very soft kiss on the cheek or a special touch on her lower back that creates anticipation. Other times it might just be a look, those eyes if you know how to use them ladies can be a powerful tool! A special word or reference to a past experience you have shared may also be quite meaningful. Regardless of what it is.....It is something that is shared exclusively between the two of you.
Listen ladies, you aren't the only one who gets nervous waiting with anticipation....guys do it too!
Carly Simon sang it best.....so I'll share with you!
