Thinking about dating? Finding someone local is quite ideal...but what if after you meet him he gets relocated, or what if you met while on vacation or away in college studying abroad? Then what are the options? Ladies, we're faced with these obstacles more than we think, and we hear about it all the time...what about when you find yourself in this particular situation, then what? Who determines if it's worth it or not? Who decides what great force of love it takes to keep two people together and reunites them time and time again over the miles, mountains, and seas? Get ready to run up those frequent flyer miles!
A local relationship often has a very nice progress from date-to-date as a couple escalates from that first dinner, to multiple dates in a week to exciting getaways. Long distance relationships are very different – when you are apart it sometimes feels like a relationship is progressing very slowly, but when you are together the intensity may be different than any previous relationship you may have had. How so you ask? Well, your lifestyles are changing, whether you wish to accept that or not. You are with a different crowd in a new place...everything is new to you! My advice is just to “be prepared” and to have a sense of the progress in your relationship that is adjusted for the unique nature of a long distance romance. If progress feels “slow” when you are apart, give yourself some extra time before you start drawing any conclusions. No time to cry about it or sulk about it,....no no no... suck it up and make plans to feel that special connection again! If you’re coming off a long weekend visiting your new romance and you feel a giant leap forward in intimacy and connection, be sure to consider those feelings in light of the intensity created by being together and knowing there is a clock on your time together...and it eventually runs out and you are distanced once again.
Communicate and Connect: long distance relationships die less often from incompatibility and the inconvenience of separation than they do from simple neglect. Days slip by, communication becomes more spotty, you each get busy doing other things because you are not longer in the same place (as in area) and eventually the relationship begins to fade. If you are serious about making a go of a long-distance relationship then staying connected has to become a habit. Pick a regular time to call and make that your "special time," don’t let too many days go by without talking, and always know the next date the two of you will be together again. Take joint responsibility for making the communication happen, it should be on both of you to make every connection happen. Also, don’t underestimate the power of the written letter – there is something about the thrill of the receipt and the ability to physically carry it around that makes this type of communication very powerful. Put your lips on it gently or spray it with his favorite perfume and he'll keep it nearby in a night stand so he can think about you and in a sense, keep you near.
The Reunion Celebration: this is 9 times out of 10 the most fun part of a long-distance relationship – separation depression is washed away, the intensity of the reunion is intoxicating, and there is a certain exotic feel to traveling for love. Pull out that lingerie from Simply Delicious Lingerie and get ready to tease away! Heels, misc accessories,..we've got that too, and for a lot cheaper! For these weekend get togethers, I am not one to discourage the nice dinners and exciting events that help make these reunions thrilling, but I also encourage long distance singles to include some day-to-day “boring” activities in the weekend plans. It never hurts to bring along your LBD and heels, should you decide to kick it up a notch. If you are more opt to staying in, you'd better bring the handcuffs, costume and heels...have some good old fashion sexy playful fun! Give him something to think about long after the weekend is over. It will make him crave you more! If you have a love that is strong it will survive the storm...across the miles and seas, remember that love conquers all!
