What Happens when your Pharmacy Gives YOU the WRONG Meds?

More than likely at some point in our life most Americans will require having a prescription filled. Medications are important and in some cases can make the difference in life or death...but what happens when your pharmacy gives you the wrong meds? For our family we've experienced this happening not once, or twice but a handful of times. Had my mother not checked her meds each time she comes home from the pharmacy and been taking this particular brand of medicine for her heart for over 5 years now, she may not have taken notice, but she pays attention to the appearance of the pill for a reason. At her local pharmacy which is located inside of a chain grocery store on Mahoning Ave in Austintown Ohio this has been done repeatedly. What is worse is that it's listed right on my mothers file in their computer that she has to take the brand name drug rather than the generic supplement as it makes her extremely ill and NOT to give her this particular brand.

My question to this pharmacy is simple; "What the hell are you doing?" Aren't instructions listed for reasons, or is it that they get so busy that they rush through the process and just don't care? My mother calls them and is quite nice about this. They are very lucky it is she that called and not I. My moms life is nothing to mess with and she is very important to me. This article is for those of you who are familiar with this situation because it has happened to you before. To those of you whom have never experienced this; be very grateful that it's never happened to you or a loved one.

Mistakes in the use of a medication are one of the best tracked types of medical error. Errors with medication can occur in hospitals, at the pharmacy, in the doctor's office, and even due to the patient. Problems can include adverse reactions and interactions with other medications, and also basic administrative errors such as patients being given the wrong medication or wrong dosage. A less studied aspect of mistakes involving medications is the misdiagnosis of a disease when the real cause is a side effect of a medication; see medications underlying disease.

From mixing up the names of drugs, to problems reading a doctor's handwriting, to pulling the wrong drug off the shelf, there are a number of ways your prescription can get mixed up at the pharmacy, resulting in medication errors for you.

Here are some ways to make sure you receive the right medication:
  1. Be sure you have had a comprehensive conversation with your doctor about what is being prescribed, what the dosage is, how often you will take it, what it will look like and what you can expect from taking the drug.
  2. If the doctor's office plans to phone in your prescription to the pharmacy, ask for a written copy, too. You'll want to review it with the staff to be sure it covers the same prescription your doctor has described. Once you get to the pharmacy, a written copy will help you confirm they are giving you the right drug.
  3. Included in your review with the doctor should be questions about any abbreviations or acronyms the doctor uses on the written prescription. Between difficulty reading the doctor's handwriting, and the difficulty created by Latin and Greek based initials, it's easy to be confused.
  4. Limit the number of pharmacies you do business with. You might try using one mail-order pharmacy for any drugs you take every day or on a regular basis over a long period of time. Choose a local pharmacy for any shorter0term drugs that you will only need for a few days or weeks. This way the records at the two pharmacies can easily be compared, saving you from a potential drug conflict or reaction.
  5. You'll have an opportunity to discuss your prescription with your pharmacist, so be prepared for that conversation. Take your current medication and supplement list when you pick up your order. It will be an opportunity to double check the potential for problems with the pharmacist.
  6. When you are offered the opportunity to speak to the pharmacist, take it. Ask the pharmacist to confirm what the drug is and why you are supposed to take it.
  7. Usually your prescription will be handed to you, already bagged and ready to go. Before you leave the pharmacy, open the bag, and check to be sure your name is on the bottle or box. Then open the container and look at the drug and make sure it looks the way the doctor described it to you.
  8. Read the label and make sure it says what you expect it will based on the information your doctor gave you. The label should bear your name, the name of the drug, the dosage, the frequency you take it, whether or not it should be taken with food or liquids (or not) and other pieces of information such as whether you will get drowsy or you should avoid alcohol.
  9. If there are any discrepancies, ask to speak with the pharmacist. A discrepancy does not necessarily indicate a problem. For example, you may have been given a generic drug in place of a branded drug. In many states, that is expected and not unusual.
  10. Ask the pharmacist about refills. If you'll need refills, what is the best way to request them, and how long will it take to get them? Do they have all of your allergies listed? You'll also want to know how long your new supply will last. Something to ponder,...it is important for you to be aware of pharmacy malpractice, its effects and what you can do to protect yourself. One very common form of pharmacy malpractice occurs when a patient receives the wrong dosage of a prescribed medication.
One last piece of advice, related to your cost. If there are questions about generics vs branded drugs, be sure you get what you pay for. Your copays for generic drugs should be less than those for a name brand drug. Ask the pharmacist or the technician to explain to you which one you are paying for. Then when you get your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance company, it will make be easier to reconcile your billing.

Last but not least,...PLEASE, check your meds when you get home. If anything looks odd, call the pharmacy and your doctor right away and do not take this medicine. This is your life we're talking about. In my case this is my mothers life and my family would like to keep her around for years to come. This has certainly taught me a valuable lesson. I hear of this happening to others and have always thought to myself, "Wow, how terrible!" A few days ago I experienced this for myself first hand.

Excellent Customer Service for the Holidays and Everyday...

I enjoy shopping for loved ones, family members, friends and coworkers. What makes it even a better experience is when you find someone that goes that extra mile for you to really seal the deal, whereas that customer service representative will go over and above what many others would do. Why? Because they love to mingle with people and they know how to provide excellent customer service. I'm about to share with you superb customer care I received today that I felt needed to be spoken of.

When I grew up my parents raised myself and my siblings to treat others as we would wish to be treated. Those are powerful words and the best advice anyone could have given me as a child and young adult. Here's why...as I got older and matured, I married and started a family and raised my children to treat others with dignity and respect just as I did. When you do this, people take notice. Giving to those who cannot do for themselves is one of the best gifts. We don't about what we do, we just do it. We aren't ever looking for praise, we do it out of love.

It is much better to give than to receive. With this time being the holidays we look for great deals and what we love even more so is when we come in contact with a salesperson/customer service representative who has style, class and above all, a terrific personality. When you have these there things you can sell a product to anyone even if they don't need it. Why? Because these people give us a sense of security with these products. My grandmother always used to say, "If you can't stand behind your words, you have no right trying to sell the product!" She was quite a wise woman. She raised me to believe in karma. Do I? You bet I do!

I want to talk to you about a company that I have been using for a few years and one that I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE! It's called Restaurant.com and you can find it on the web at; http://www.restaurant.com/. They have an A+ rating with the BBB and they are an SSL site, which means they are secure so your information and credit card info is safe with them!

Generally, I go to this site to buy gift cards for restaurants and its as easy as 1,2 3. Their specials are GREAT! A few days ago I learned of a sale through my son, a  holiday sale where you could buy a $25 gift card for only $1.00! Imagine that? These restaurants are pretty much giving you food for free to frequent them. If you've never heard of this place before for goodness sakes, check them out now. This special is going on through Christmas Eve and when you enter the code: JOY at checkout it changes your prices to $1.00 per $25. See the coupon below.

Listen,...guys and gals take advantage of this right away! Make sure that you read the rules and stipulations for each restaurant as they do have rules. Some can't be used on weekends, some on holidays, generally this does not include alcohol, etc. However, they are the way to go with gifts! Everyone loves to go out to eat and try new places. A few months back I went to NYC in Manhattan (Upper East Side) to visit my son and took a bunch of these gift cards. We had great food and service. I did the same for my daughter who lives in Houston Texas and we tried a number of great places there too! In both cases, we went to places that one might never think of to go at any other time. Listen...I love trying new places, and I am NOT knocking chain restaurants...BUT step outside of the box/your comfort zone if you've not yet and do yourself a favor and try new places! You'll love them and you'll be so happy that you did!

My story to you today is about an extraordinary young man who works for a company called Restaurant.com named Miguel Lara. When I ran into trouble with my order, I called and was directed to him to assist me. This man is amazing and had all the answered. He assured me that I would have time to purchase my certificates until Christmas Eve. (Apparently, so many people are trying to buy these that the servers are busy and if it kicks you out, you have to start over trying again at a later time) This had never happened to me before ever, but then again I've never seen a sale such as this.

Miguel was upbeat, friendly and quite outgoing. He first asked me my name, and my email address to check my account. He chuckled when I said Michele@SimplyDeliciousLingerie.com. I told him "I own a lingerie shop and that I am building a new one for plus sizes." I love what I do! I gave him my website; http://www.simplydeliciouslingerie.com/ He immediately started a friendly conversation about my business all the while discussing the various perks for Reataurant.com. He reminded me a lot of myself and the customer service skills that I have and I was extremely  impressed with his actions!

I gave Miguel this information about me for one specific reason. I have a blog on my website at the top left of the homepage and I write about a variety of things. I was so intrigued by his pleasant personality and his willingness to go above and beyond to help a gal out that I wanted everyone to know that there are wonderful people that care about you and who love servicing you! Miguel treated me with great respect. He was  admirable , ambitious and fabulous! Any company would be blessed to have such a salesperson working for them. Because of Miguel, I will tell friends and share blogs and continue to patronize http://www.restaurant.com/ in the future! Thank you Miguel so much for making my day one to remember and for allowing me to write about you today. Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Sexy Lingerie Gives Women a Boost of Confidence!

Thinking you need a boost...a pick me up, something to up the ante and make you stand out amongst other woman so that your partner, mate, lover, or spouse does a double take? Well, here's a thought,...If you want to spice up your personal life, consider sexy lingerie. Consider Simply Delicious Lingerie. Men love it, and women feel confident in the perfect piece. Confidence is key ladies!!

Lets face it...for many of us, where we live depends on what our mood is like. Take me for instance...I grew up outside of Cleveland Ohio where the snow belt sent inches of snow onto us at the drop of a hat. Then I married and moved to west Michigan off the lake shore where we had snow dumped on us even more so. During these times, we bundle up and thinking of getting sexy and frisky may not always be the way to go. Says who? I say this should be the time that you kick it into high gear and really get risque for your mate. Are you caught in a rut? If so then now is probably a good time to consider sexy lingerie. Sexy lingerie is a fast and effective way to rev things up in the bedroom. Sexy lingerie tells your partner that you still care about them. It can either be racy or risqué or slightly more demure in style but either way it is sending a loud and clear message.  Whether it is a sexy weekend planned or you are snowed in for the weekend, sexy lingerie is sure to put some spice back into your life and it offers romance that will make everyone involved happy.

Remember, your choice of lingerie is important whatever the season is. The secret to feeling sexy whatever you're wearing on top is what you're actually wearing underneath! So read on and learn about the best types of lingerie to wear during winter. Some women love the sexy matching sets, or bra and panty sets. For lingerie to wear underneath your going out clothes, a nice corset will do the trick.

Think about it, for as long as I cn remember, corsets have always been sexy, both in the eyes of the observer and in the eyes of the wearer. Since corsets enclose the middle torso, it also gives you this seductive look as it pushes your chest up and sculpts the shape of your waist. There's also enough coverage to keep you warm which makes it perfect for winter! Corsets are perfect for every body type, even if you're a plus size as these are adjustable and we offer a variety of sizes.

Dress Sexy, Talk Sexy...Put On Those Bedroom Eyes!

Dress Sexy!

I say this all the time...what you wear and how you look are key. No need to over do it. A classy woman knows just how to entice a man and she certainly doesn't have to get slutty to do so. A true gentleman wants a woman that has her act together; a woman who he could be proud to be with and a woman who looks sexy, not smutty. This should go without saying when you are figuring out how to turn a man on. While most girls already know that men get turned on by what they see, few understand just how powerfully it turns guys on. How many times have you been walking down the street and your man has turned his head to see a girl wearing something very sexy? 1) If this happens and you are with a man, you aren't doing the right thing and you certainly haven't impressed him much or he would be focusing ALL of his attention on YOU! 2) Use this to your advantage to turn your boyfriend on. Men love foreplay, seduction and a sophisticated woman. Here I go again....wear your LBD (little black dress) it works like a charm ALL THE TIME and it is CLASSY if worn right and dressed with the proper accessories!

Talk Sexy!
The next part to turning a guy on is by talking sexy. You may feel a little uncomfortable talking sexy at first, but this is really key if you want to learn how to turn a guy on. To make yourself feel more comfortable, start with baby steps until you get your confidence. You can try saying things like, “I was thinking about you last night” or “Sometimes I think about you at night” or “I can’t stop thinking about what I want to do to you”. Saying these kinds of things isn’t that hard, and are a sure fire way to turn him on.

However once you are comfortable talking sexy, you can ramp it up. You can start saying things like, “I want you baby” or “I keep wondering what you would look like if you were naked” or “I want you so bad”.  Personally, I don't like being called baby. That's my personal opinion. Use your choice of words wisely, otherwise you'll be left all alone. There are a few key things to remember when talking sexy if you are trying to turn a guy on. Firstly you must always start out slowly and build it up. Next you must remember that whispering it into his ear is much better at turning him on than by saying it loudly. Last, you only need to say one or 2 sexy things to truly turn him on, there’s no need to overdo it.

 Aren't Surprises Fun!

One technique many girls leave out when learning how to turn on a guy is using surprise to your advantage. Many guys get bored easily. Hello...so do we! Why else do you see them turning their heads at every other girl when they are walking down the street with you? OK, so not all guys do this, but  many do. To stop him from getting bored and to turn him on, try surprising him instead. This could be something like calling him over to help you fix the toaster, but when he arrives, open the door dressed in lingerie. Try this... you could do something different instead, like calling over to his house and telling him you have something to show him in the bedroom, then initiating a sexy seduction with him!

Hey Sticky Fingers...Get Touchy Feely

This next part is super important when learning how to turn a guy on. Touching him may not seem like the most sexy thing ever. But when combined with talking sexy and dressing sexy, it will be amplified very strongly. If you touch him in a boring way, like on the shoulder or elbow, then most likely it will have little effect. But if you grab him around the waist or if you touch his hand, neck or face then he will definitely get turned on by it. Go slow, whats the hurry?....Go nice and easy. There is no fire to put out. Take your time, and enjoy!

Try Taking Control In The Bedroom

Let’s be honest ladies: most guys are in charge in the bedroom? Right? Nope, not always.... However something that will help you to turn a guy on is to take the lead when you are in bed together. ‘Taking Control’ can be something as simple as being on top during sex or talking a little dirty. However once you are comfortable doing this, you can take more of a lead. You can tell him what to do or what not to do. Just use commands like, “Lie Down” or “Shut Up”. However you may not be entirely comfortable doing this. If that doesn't work, use my specialty tip; handcuffs and reddi whip! Always a win/win!

Our Pets and the Holidays

Winter can be a magical time of year for family, friends, and furry companions alike. Holidays are such a joyous occasion to decorate and get festive! I love my cats and like most pet owners, we treat them like part of the family. It seems many pet owners have accepted that our pets are like children, so of course we enjoy indulging them more than ever. To keep everyone happy and safe, consider which holiday traditions might be potential hazards for your pet and please take proper precautions— before the season begins, but what about the decorations you put out specifically for the holiday season? Do pets get into these things? Oh you bet they do. They are mischievous just like children are except generally when a child takes something we find it in their room or toy box. What did you do when things turn up missing and your pet gets caught in the act as the thief? My mother has cats and they get into everything at the holidays.

Let me share a funny story with you...things turn up missing at mom and dads house all the time, this year, we had a good laugh over our nativity set. Mom has it under the Christmas tree. Nothing ever bothers it. Year after year they put it out and then pack it away for next holiday. One night mom was sitting on the couch and noticed one of the three kings and baby Jesus were MIA? The king was found under the island in the kitchen and baby Jesus under the sofa in family room, both unharmed., thank goodness! The little baby Jesus is once again swaddled in the crib glued down, along with all others. Yes, those who were lost are once again found.
How can we be sure this will not happen again next year? The next morning I woke up to the stinky smell of hot melting glue. As I came around the corner, there was my mom was bending over the manger with glue gun in hand. Now,each of the 3 Kings, Mary, Joseph and Little Baby Jesus are safe and sound and they aren;t going anywhere!

Lets face it, pets get into things on a daily basis but at the holiday season, they tend to get into even more things...Keep close eye on them they could be allergic to ingredients in human perfumes, (we get a lot of these for gifts and tend to leave them boxed under the tree) also, air fresheners, oils and candles need to be watched...but there are pet-friendly versions of some scented products. People who use those might even find themselves wheezing less, my thought have always been, what's good for pets is good for people. NOT TRUE! My sister has a chocolate lab named Riley and she thinks she is a human,...oh she'll try to eat everything in sight and she's been caught on her hind legs pulling things off the kitchen counter top. There are foods that cats and dogs simply cannot have that can be quite harmful to them, so please, although you might want to sneak the critters something yummy, ask first or you may be handed a very expensive vet bill. No chocolate, raisins or onions for doggies! These are s deadly for them.

Jingling bells and other holiday decorations can offer a host of new toys for pets to play with or explore, which may put them in danger.Pets are curious and observant. They can find things you may not even notice.

Therefore, decorate with safety in mind:

Place ornaments higher on the tree, away from playful cats or dogs.
Move surface decorations that pose a choking hazard out of reach. Bite-sized adornments, or nativity scene pieces, may cause severe internal injury if ingested.
Tie back or tape down electrical cords so animals who love to chew won’t nibble and get a jolt. Loose cords can also tangle around a pet, posing a risk of strangulation or possibly capsizing heavy decorations, such as a Christmas tree.Keep open flames inaccessible. Open chimney fires, menorahs, and other flame sources can burn animals or cause a house fire if disturbed.

Remember; During holiday feasting, pets should not participate in the gluttony. Feeding a pet scraps can cause serious stomach and intestinal upset from overfeeding or more severe illnesses if the foods are toxic to animals. Pets hanging around the kitchen should be kept away from any alcohol, chocolate, macadamia nuts, or raisins that may have been left out. For a more comprehensive list of toxic foods and poisonous house plants, visit the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Animal Poison Control Center’s website at  www.aspca.org/ apcc.

Holidays,...For Some they are Merry...Others, Quite Difficult.

Do you feel that the holidays get more and more stressful each year? What to do? Take a bottle of wine (like I do) and go hit the bubbly..and by that I mean the tub! Relax and embrace the warmth penetrating down to your bones. Baths are not just for babies and toddlers anymore. Take a nice long bath in lavender. Studies have shown that not only is lavender calming, but it also reduces feeling of anger. Lavender is not just masking feelings of anger and resentment with a false sense of calm, but it can change our mood. Moreover, baths are relaxing, what can be more happy- inducing than that and a good bottle pino grigio, really?

No one wants Mr. or Ms. Crabby Pants...so please, go visit Mr. Sandman for heaven sakes! You can't possibly keep going, and going, and going...eventually it will catch up to you. Sleep, enough sleep is conducive to being happy. One more hour a week is enough to brighten eyes and pep up moods. Imagine if you can allow yourself one extra hour of sleep a night-why you will be the one singing all the Christmas carols around the office and smiling at everyone. The holidays are upon us once again. For many people, life can get in the way of our plans for a perfect celebration. Illness, death, job loss are all a part of the real world. The holidays come whether we feel like celebrating or not.

What do the holidays do to people...how do they really make us feel? The truth is that not everyone feels joyous at this time of year. It would be great if we all could but we are human. During this time of year, it is normal to think about loved ones we have lost or remember happier times in our lives. Being depressed during the holiday season is not uncommon.

The truth is...the media starts to bombard us before Halloween with the upcoming holiday season. Some people begin to panic and feel the pressure of having to create a perfect holiday atmosphere. The reason for the season is often forgotten and especially for those who suffer from depression, the holiday circus can push you further into darkness.

Remember, no one has a perfect life. Especially in this day with many people being unemployed, the economy has changed how much money people spend on the holidays. This can be an extremely tough time for them, so don't go rubbing in all the fa'la'la'la'la stuff...so NOT COOL! This can be good because it can redirect the focus of the holidays to what it should be. If you have a family, be grateful. Now we all have issues with our family from time to time but ultimately, would you rather be alone?

Being part of a family is not always easy. It definitely is something that most of us take for granted. Life can be short and that difficult person in your life will not always be a part of it. Decide for yourself whether you are going to allow them to bring you down at the holidays or whether your attitude is going to be one of accepting people for who they are.

Why is it that people act so phony at the holidays? Everyone has to put on an act. We show up at a family members home with our kids dressed nice and we look decked to the 9's but what is really going on? I'll tell you...in 5 cases out of 10 they are miserable people. They fight and yell at one another all year long, cheat, beat, drink and steal...then that one day a year they act as one happy family so everyone thinks that they have such a perfect life. Forgive me for saying this but I feel so sorry for all of you that have to do this. Why? Lets just say that I too have been down that road and if you want my opinion? Run like hell, take what you can and leave. Start over even if it means with nothing at all, at least then, you will have your honor, integrity and most especially your pride back where it belongs. Holidays are for love and family. If you can't act truly like one and be good to those around you that are actually happy,..stay the hell home and don't ruin everyone elses day!

What about if you are alone for the holidays? Well, the thought of it makes you sad, you can do something different this year. Look into the idea of volunteering at a shelter or soup kitchen for the holiday. You will not be alone and the gift of your time to help someone less fortunate can be a gift to yourself also. Having a purpose can do a lot for feeling sad during the holidays. It beats sitting home alone in front of the television or computer, or getting your ass kicked by your spouse whose had one to many bourbon and eggnog's. There are so many things to do for Christmas and other holidays that you will enjoy doing. After a while you'll wonder why you waited so long. Go to church if you feel alone. There is nowhere else others would want to be than near people who are blessed and who have the right holiday spirit.

What about for those of you are grieving the loss of a loved one? I am sorry for you loss....please, try to hold on to your memories of happy times you spent together. Feel joy that you have the memories but try to turn your focus away from wishing you would have had more time. Try not to isolate yourself during the holidays but surround yourself with supportive friends and relatives. If you need to cry, then cry. Grief is unique to each individual who go through it. There is no appropriate timetable and especially during the holidays it can be difficult, and all you can do is reach out to them and be their friend, share the love. They may not realize what you are doing at the time, but they will. It's Christmas for heaven sakes, be happy, be grateful for all that you do have, and enjoy for it only comes once a year! Get your Fa'la'la'la'la on~!

Holiday Lingerie at Simply Delicious Lingerie

It's that time of the year again....When you think about the holidays and shopping...it can be stressful. We all know that  lingerie stores is that it can be quite expensive on the wallet, so with this in mind we must always plan ahead of time how much we'll spend on a sexy outfit especially in this current economic atmosphere where life and jobs seem so unstable,...we want something that won't break the bank, that is seductive...something that's sassy and sizzles. Something that says "Hey baby I'm yours!" Isn't part of being sexy teasing just a little?

Now the problem with shopping for sexy lingerie at stores is that these lingerie stores usually have a high overhead and expenses to take on and they passed this overhead and expenses over on to you the consumer..so naturally the bottom line is what? YOU PAY MORE! Even though you can purchase your lingerie right on the spot this still will put a very big ding in your wallet. You can buy your lingerie outside or you can do what so many others have started to do during the recession and that is shop online for sexy lingerie. Hi, I'm Michele Savin, owner of Simply Delicious Lingerie and soon to be Simply Luscious Lingerie for plus size women launching in a few months. Here's the advantage to shopping online,....You see, it's quite simple actually...a sexy lingerie store is  the online lingerie website where one doesn't really have to pay for any more expenses but a few valuable employees, equipment, office products, and some storage space. I discovered that all I really needed was a good-looking website and super great people to work with me and with those in combination, everything is possible! At Simply Delicious Lingerie that is basically what you see when you are shopping online.

When you are shopping online for sexy lingerie you have the advantage of doing comparison shopping without actually having to use gas up in your car to travel from store to store. It's all done by the click of a mouse. Now whether you are shopping for sexy high heels, sexy costumes, sexy nightgowns or any other kind of sexy lingerie you can do this all online with the click of a mouse and your handy credit card ready to make the order. You are in the privacy of your own home, or office...and you can browse my boutique everyday and any day whatever time you wish...we're always open! Honestly... It can't get easier than that can it?

This is the time of year where naughty is celebrated! No need to be nice to get yummy exotic outfits in your stocking. Though, we can find the right selection for nice girls, too! And, for those girls teetering between naughty and nice how about this hot number, the Dreamgirl - 4 Piece North Pole Hottie Cami Set  in bright red, to bring out the provocative woman you know is lurking underneath? Why not get a little frisky tonight? After all, Christmas comes but once a year, but if you are naughty enough, your mate will make certain that you have items like this all year round!

After all, isn't Naughty or Nice about being a little bit of both? At our boutique we have something to suit your needs regardless of the season. Do we really need a season to wear something sexy for our mate, partner, lover, or spouse? No! When you shop at our store, pick out that naughty or nice piece to add a little zest to the holidays...it's like a spritzer, gives your appeal a little zing! Remember, whether its the holiday season or for simply 'no reason' confidence is worn with elegance and grace, so before you slip into the lingerie, make certain that it's the piece that makes you feel like a million bucks!

We're Giving You $20

What Do I Wear to the Holiday Party?

Not sure how to dress? First off, holiday parties are a time to be festive and bold...that means showing up looking festive in your holiday attire, NOT looking like someone decorated you for Christmas with flashy bold neon sparkling colors that hurt ones eyes. Knock off the party jitters and show up looking classy. Sure it’s a great excuse to break out of your normal wardrobe rut, but think about those around you..play it fun, and safe. Want my recommendation? I have one word for this holiday season: sequins! If the idea of sequins conjures up memories of cheesy, sparkly gowns from the 80’s, relax. Designers have revamped sequins, making them more muted, but still festive while looking current and chic. And they are everywhere this season, at every price point. Today,  sequins aren't dresses that are covered in sequins, they might have just an added touch to give an accent to the dress that will catch ones eye from a distance. Let’s break down some of the common party types and what you can wear to shine, in a good way.

Black Tie

A Black Tie invitation calls for formal attire. Men wear tuxedos, women wear cocktails, long dresses or dressy evening separates. A little black dress is completely appropriate for black tie functions.
Formal usually means the same as Black Tie, but in some trendier cities like New York or Los Angeles, it could mean a black shirt, no tie with a tux. Women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates.
A White Tie or Ultra-formal invitation requires men wear full dress, with white tie, vest, shirt. Women wear long gowns.
More about dressing

Semi-Formal

Semi-Formal or After Five means that tuxes are not required, nor are long dresses. An evening wedding (after 6 PM) would still dictate dark suits for him, and a cocktail dress for her. Daytime semi-formal events mean a suit for him and an appropriate short dress or dressy suit for her.

Business Formal is the same as Semi-Formal for him, but for women it suggests that women opt for more tailored dressy suits and dresses. The idea is to still be business appropriate -- which means nothing too sexy or slinky - but still dressed up.

Cocktail Attire

Cocktail Attire means short, elegant dresses for her and dark suits for him. The little black dress (my all time favorite) is the ultimate cocktail dress and appropriate for most special occasions.Wear it with very little accessories, a necklace and classy earrings that dangle a bit. Make sure that you have the heels to accent the dress as it seals the deal.

Informal

Informal is often interpreted as the same as Casual but it actually calls for the same dress as Semi-Formal - dark suits for him, short dresses for her -- especially when associated with a wedding or special event. Ladies, just know how short 'short' means? Don't got slutty to a party. Have some style. If you are single looking for a possible potential date or hook up, short and creepy is not going to win you the eye of a man who seeks style, class and a touch of sophistication. Men want extraordinary gals, not a tramp. If you are going to dress the part of class, you better be able to back it up. If you dress like a two bit whore, you'll attract the wrong kind of man and he certainly won't respect you.

Festive Attire

Festive Attire is usually seen around the holidays, with the mood of the party being Informal or Semi-Formal. For her, it means to choose looks with a bit of sparkle or holiday bent (i.e. a beaded sweater with black pants, a red silk blouse with a black skirt). Or a party dress/cocktail dress with sparkle and glitter that defines you and your classy look.

Casual

Dressy Casual calls for dressed-up versions of casual looks. For him, it could be trousers and a sportcoat, for her a dressy pants look. Jeans, shorts, T-shirts and other casual looks are not appropriate for Dressy Casual.
Casual generally means anything goes (including jeans, sneakers, etc.) If the host or hostess wants a more dressed-up approach, it would be dictated on the invite.
And when in doubt about what to wear, remember you can always ask the host or hostess what they expect party guests to wear.
