Losing Weight on Low Carbs

Everyday we wake up thinking to ourselves...how  an I get in shape and lose weight? With all of the diets to try, why are so many people leaning toward the low carb diet? There are more and more reports showing that low carb eating works. This popular diet plan, made famous by Dr Robert Atkins and others, has helped innumerable people to lose weight. But is it just like any other diet or is there a special reason why people seem to be more successful with low carb eating? Why does a low carb diet work?

There are two main reasons why low carb eating can work for people who struggle with any other kind of diet. Let's take them one by one;

1. Fewer calories - less hunger
Many people make the mistake of thinking that low carb diets are high protein diets. This is so not necessarily the case. In fact, many low carbohydrate plans advise against eating too much protein because it can stress the kidneys. So if you are not eating carbs and you are not eating much more protein than usual, where do your calories come from? The answer is fat. Low carbing is not so much high protein as a high fat diet. That may seem crazy but stay with us here and you will find it does make sense.

Eating fat is what gives us that full, satisfied feeling after a meal. If you have ever tried to eat a no-fat diet based on fruit and vegetables, you will know that you can have a huge bloated stomach and still feel that you want something more to eat - even though you could not possibly fit it in. It is fat that your body is craving.

So if you eat more fat, you can be satisfied with smaller meals (fewer calories). It may take a few minutes for the full feeling to kick in, but if you get up after your low carb meal, wash the dishes and brush your teeth, by the time you are done, you will be feeling full.
You also stay satisfied for longer. You are less likely to want to snack. Dr Atkins has a rule that people on his diet must not go more than 6 waking hours without eating in order to keep the metabolism running well. That rule is necessary because low carb eating makes us forget about food for much longer.

2. Eating fat makes the body use fat
But it is not all about calories. The second reason that low carb, high fat diets can help us to lose weight is that we get into ketosis (or lipolysis, as it is sometimes called). When the body cannot get its energy from carbohydrates, it begins to convert fat into glucose for energy.

This process uses all the fat that we eat. If we were eating a lot of carbs, it would take its energy from those and store the fat. Instead, with low carb eating we are burning it up. What is more, we also start to burn up the fat that we have stored previously. So we begin to get slimmer.

Some research has shown that people on low carb eating plans can eat considerably more calories than people on low fat diets and still lose weight. This is great news for anybody who has had trouble sticking to diets in the past. It means that you can eat large quantities of some high calorie foods like cream, butter and olive oil, and still see those pounds disappearing.

So that is why low carb diets work. First they make you feel less hungry, so you probably will eat less. Second, even on days when you eat more, you can still lose - as long as you stick with the low carb eating plan allowed foods and avoid those pesky carbohydrates.

Your Happiness and Success...

What does being happy and being successful really mean to you? Being happy is wonderful and it is an experience that everyone should feel at one time or another. Success is great but if you cannot share it with anyone, is it really that great? If you were to ask me which I would prefer it would be a tie, you see because I want both. Happiness is a terrific feeling whether it be in family life, relationships, dating, work, etc. Success is something that takes a long time to achieve and it only seems fair that you would want that someone special to be near you when you were experiencing this. Do you have someone that you can talk to about almost anything, good or bad and know that they won't judge you, but that they will listen and respond accordingly? Happiness and success are two concepts intertwined with one another. These are two of the most important ingredients that will eventually define a person’s life. How do you want your life to be defined?

If you think about it, happiness and success are two things that are relative to a person’s point of view since these are dependent on one’s ideologies. Happiness and success relate to a target or reference point. Some people think if you are happy, you are blind to reality. Aren't we all at some point? But when we research it, happiness actually raises every single business and educational outcome for the brain. How did we miss this? Why do we have these societal misconceptions about happiness? Because we assumed you were average. Listen, don't beat yourself up...happiness is what you make of it just as success is as well.

So... what does it mean to be successful?

A simple question but this definition can have various notations it’s all depends on individual fate and values. Nevertheless, regardless of one’s values or fate we all need money to achieve our goals.
The only thing there, is how much of it is necessary to satisfy one’s interest. If we actually think that to be successful imply that we must want money as much as we want to breathe than we might as well drown because if that’s the value we go by, than the more we have the more we are going to want. Material possessions don't buy love and they really don't keep you warm at night, do they?
Sure, we all like having really nice things but I would give it all up in a heart beat for my own true happiness. Oh, wait a minute, I did.

The truth of the matter is that the meaning of success deviates depending on the individual. However, what it means to be successful to one person may not be for the other. And for that we say success is relative to one’s goals. Whereas success for one person may be the accomplishment of a successful book which will bring him/her some income - for the next person that may not be enough. In this case the author gives more value to the knowledge that he/she has shared with the world as oppose to the money, while some may see no success in that.

Success can be as meaningful as the victory over a deadly disease, let say cancer or a severe case of diabetes. Success can also be defined as someone who has the ability to maintain his/her protocol without having to be rich as long as they’re happy. There are people in this world who are filthy rich and yet are not happy.

How do you measure success? Those who said that money is success couldn’t have been so wrong. Money is the advantage point of success; it is what one does with it that will determine how successful one is. People do not remember us because of how much money we have, but instead because of how we have influenced their lives. Lets take for example; Beyonce. She is not successful because of how much money she own. She is successful because her songs have touched the lives of many others. That makes for success and happiness. She just so happened to have a talent that attracts a lot of money, but had her talent not drawn that much money she still would have been successful for the lives that she has touched. Some people get so wrapped up in the material crap that they can't see the forest through the trees. It's a shame too. They just don't get it.

When we study people, scientists are often interested in what the average is. If we study what is merely average, we will remain merely average. Many people think happiness is genetic. That's only half the story, because the average person does not fight their genes. When we stop studying the average and begin researching positive outliers -- people who are above average for a positive dimension like optimism or intelligence -- a wildly different picture emerges. Our daily decisions and habits have a huge impact upon both our levels of happiness and success.

Happiness may breed success. A person may say that he is happy because he just finished his studies or he just met a fine woman. A person may say he is successful because he was just promoted to a higher position. When one talks about happiness and success, a certain goal or perhaps an achievement is always the reference point. A person will constantly ask himself if he is happy or if he can consider himself successful. Many people become depressed because they cannot seem to make sense of all the things that are happening in their lives. The most important thing to remember, when evaluating your happiness and success, is that you need to limit your assessment using your own personal standards. Often times, depression comes about because people rely so much on the expectations of others. Oftentimes, the workplace becomes a battleground wherein people live their lives according to the expectations of other people. Then, on the flip side, there are some people who want you to fail. It is because of this type that makes me push myself even harder to succeed. People that wish you unhappiness, in so many words, or thought, are not your friends.

Again, happiness and success depend on your own views. What I think happiness is may not at all be what you envision it to be.It really depends on one’s ideologies. The only thing that we can infer from these two concepts is that these are mutually intertwined. One can say that success brings happiness and happiness is an essential ingredient towards success (i.e. Being happy with one’s work will bring beautiful fruits of labor). Yes, this is true. Some are happy to see us fail. No one fails if they try, so remember that next time someone laughs at you for a great idea that you have and remember that you had the balls to at least give it a try. Enough said?

Happiness and success are two things that all people aspire for in life. There can never be a single definition for both of these concepts. Even dictionaries wouldn’t dare give exact definitions for these words. I dunno...Perhaps, only the human heart can define these concepts. You will know when you are happy or when you can call yourself successful if your heart says so. What is your heart telling you?

FriEnDs ThAt YoU DoN't NeEd In yOuR LiFe...

What does friendship mean to you? I've always said that if I want to go backwards, I can do it pretty damn good by myself. We all count on our friends to bring us up when we are down, to pick us up when we fall, and to make us smile and laugh when the cloud is so dark you don't think you'll ever see the light again...Ahhh yes, these are our friends that come with no price tag, that will awaken at all hours of the night when you have  boyfriend issue. They are the ones that think nothing of hitting up the 24 hour diner for greasy burgers and the drive through liquor store to get a cheap bottle of wine or booze to sit with you and drown those relationship sorrows, a job loss, a family matter, or even an illness....They are always there to lean on, always reliable and the most dependable type of friend that you could wish or hope for. They listen, react and respond.

If only you were a genie and you could have a crystal ball so that you would be able to predict  not only the future but the reliability of your friendships with others what would it tell you? If you looked deep into the type of friendships that exist, you would be taken back to know that for so many of these so called 'friends' it's not about 'you' at all. Unfortunately, we only have a trial and error system that comes with pain, frustration and so very often.... heartache. What kind of friends do you have? For the most part, we should all have the type of friends that are there to pick up the pieces when we need them the most...but there are those that we think are our friends that are on their own self-path to destruction. These are the type of friends that will only bring you down and take the wind out of your sails. These are the type of friends that we don't need. I've listed a few types that you should be very aware of for a variety of reasons as I have listed examples.

Here are the top seven types of friends that spell TROUBLE:

1) The "Not So Party Party Pooper." Ok, now this friend is also known as The Wet Blanket or The Bubble Buster as I would call it. They seem to walk around with a huge rain cloud over their head that can darken even the brightest of days. If you've just received a promotion at work, they'll remind you of how the corporate grind will use you up and spit you out. If you found a awesome sale on a pair of Jimmy Choos they'll tell you where you could have bought them for much less. If you've fallen in love, they'll remind you of how horrible it is to be tied down like the old ball and chain. These types of friends will not share in your happiness so you might want to keep your good news to yourself. Tell me then? What the hell kind of friendship is this if you can't share your joys as well as your own ups and downs with this person?

2) The Wizard. You thought you had found your life-long best friend. Things were going great and the bond was amazing. You did everything together and then POOF, they disappeared. This "now you see them; now you don't" behavior is very hurtful as well as confusing to say the least, not to mention heart breaking. You'll question what you did wrong but you're baffled. When they suddenly reappear again, they have a new best friend.Sound familiar? You feel rejected and perhaps even a little bit jealous but quite honestly, their behavior has little to do with you. These friends are commitment phobic. They are always moving from one relationship to another. Their new best friend will be in your shoes in the near future. Tell me, is this the kind of friend that you want?

3) The Train Wreck. We all have at least one of these...I know that I do.You had no idea a person could have so many problems. This friend has you on speed dial. They will call you at all hours with problems ranging from relationship catastrophes to financial misfortune. Part of you feels sorry for this friend but another side of you is aggravated because even though they ask for your advice; they really don't want it nor do they truly listen to it. The Train Wreck is usually a very willful person who creates messes but refuses to take any responsibility, the immature one that would rather fall deep down into the state of depression or into an alcoholic stooper than get help. A great quote that I once heard was;"When you choose your friends, don't be short-changed by choosing personality over character." Remember, it is the character within each person that builds and shapes who they are and how the will reflect to others either by their personality or traits.

4) Here's a good one; The Promise Breaker. We all have one of these...I know it oh so well. You spend money for an event to do something nice for a friend, your anticipation is building throughout the week to do this fun event and then last minute they call and say "Oh hey, I can't get away" or even worse..."I have a date tonight with this new hot guy I met." What the hell? This is no friend...break your ties and say 'good riddens!' What you generally get from this type is the same old sayings...."I'll be there for sure. You can count on me. I won't let you down this time." Oh, but they do time and time again. This person makes a lot of promises but routinely breaks them or doesn't keep them at all. They are not reliable and won't be there when you need them. If you are guilty of this trust-breaking behavior, you should remember to promise only what you can deliver. Then deliver more than you promise. I like this quote from Norman Vincent Peale; "Promises are like crying babies in a theater, they should be carried out at once."

5) It's All About Me. OK, so you've just received bad news. You call your friend to tell them and gain their support. No sooner have you stated the situation to them, this friend says, "That's nice but hey...guess what happened to me today?" The "It's All About Me Friend" only wants to talk about themselves. These people are very self absorbed. This is a very one sided friendship. They only listen to you because they are waiting for their turn to speak. You'll probably get more emotional comfort from talking to your plants or your dog than calling this person.

6) The Spy/Back Stabber. These people infiltrate your life only to gain access to your assets or your information. They purposely pour on the charm to win you over. They tell you what you want to hear so that you will loosen up and spill the goods. You will notice these people ask a lot of questions and need to know everything. Their goal may be to use you to get close to someone else in your life; your boss, your sister, your dad and his connections. You'll spot these two faced deceivers by how they try to eavesdrop on your conversations and their intrusive questions to fill in the gaps of what they weren't able to overhear. These are not true friends. They are back stabbing bitches that have no room in your life whatsoever so get ride of them fast our they will only make your life miserable!

And last but not least....
7) The One Upper. You did it all, the unthinkable,...Ahhhh, but guess what, they did something even better! This friend is very competitive and has to be the best or at least have the best. They are typically overachievers. They seek attention where ever they can find it? Why? Besides the fact that they think that their shit doesn't stink, they are ruthless and have no idea what the word 'friendship' even means. They tend to build themselves up by making others feel inferior. They will often show off at your expense.True friends don't have to constantly impress each other. Friendships shouldn't be based on winning and  losing. These friends need a lot of external validation but don't realize how they aggravate others by trying to be impressive. You can spot these friends whenever you tell a story. Their version tells how they did more and were better at it than you.

What kind of friend are you? Remember that character builds who you are. Your ethics and morals, those of which you were raised with will carry on as you grow and mature and mold you into the individual that you should be. My thoughts are the same now as they were 10 years ago...Just be YOU! Learn how to be the best friend that you can be and remember, actions often speak louder than words, so keep your foot out of your mouth and be the kind of friend that is loved by many. Be the friend that is always there for someone whether you live a block away or a continent away...
I truly have been blessed by the wonderful friends that I have in my life, and I am so grateful for each and every one of them.

"Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget." ~ Unknown

Dieting...It Makes Me Crazy!

I simply hear the word  "diet"and I cringe. Dieting can be a difficult thing, especially when you're trying to make drastic changes to your normal routine. My grandmother used to say; "You didn't put the weight on over night, so don't expect it to come off over night either!" Sooo true! Exercise and a balanced diet aid in weight loss. Sure we all want to look good, but looking good does come with a price...We have to be strict with what we eat, drink and we have to keep at a routine for knocking the pounds off and shedding those unwanted inches. For most women, at least those that I know, we go crazy over trying to count calories, eat right and exercise. That in itself is like a full time job. Does dieting make you crazy too? How do we take weight off and keep if off?

If you'd like to lose some weight and you don't want to see it creeping back month after month, the real secret is to do it with small changes that you incorporate into your lifestyle one at a time. You will find the greatest success if you choose lifestyle changes that you can live with in the long term. There is NO quick fix for weight loss. There is not miracle pill to take to lose cellulite either...if there were, I'd look like a perfect 10. So what does a gal do? For instance, if you love carbohydrates, it's not likely that you'll stay on a low-carb diet for long. In this situation, modifying your carbohydrate intake to an amount you find reasonable may work just fine for you.

These tips will help you eat nutritiously without feeling like you're dieting:

1. Cut portion sizes. Cutting your portion size, instead of altering what you eat, is always an option. It's easy to forget what a healthy portion actually is, which may lead many people to eat more than they intended. Try eating a bit less and use smaller plates to make it seem like your plate is still full. You'll still feel satisfied while eating less!
2. Eat slowly. You don't want to eat your meals at a snail's pace, but it does take some time for your body to send signals to your brain that your stomach is full. If you're eating slowly, you'll get that message in time before you overeat.
3. Eat more often. Experiment with dividing your meals into smaller sizes and eating more often. Eating smaller meals more often can keep you feeling full and energized and you may end up eating less.

4. Drink plenty of water. You already know that water is vital to life. Water will also help you feel full. Drinking a glass of water prior to eating a meal helps you feel full sooner.

5. Be mindful when eating at restaurants. Sometimes you'll find that you have healthy eating habits at home, but it might all go out the window when you're eating out...mine do! Restaurants are notorious for adding in extra salt, butter, and utterly ridiculous portion sizes. Either choose something that you know is healthy based on the nutritional facts, or split up your meal and take half of it home for tomorrow's lunch.

6. The calories you drink add up. When you're calculating the calories you've eaten for the day, it's easy to ignore all the calories in your drinks. If you've had mostly water, then it won't be an issue. However, if you've stopped at Starbucks, or had fruit juice or a soft drink, you might find that you've had a whole meal's worth of calories in just one drink.

7. Maintain moderate exercise. Exercise is important to your overall health and well-being. If it's hard to add time for an exercise routine to your schedule, remember that every bit of activity helps. Walking around the block, parking further out in the parking lot and taking the stairs instead of the elevator can give you some great exercise without taking up too much extra time.
Being healthy doesn't need to take a huge effort on your part. You can get there by being aware of your body's unique needs. Listen to your body and treat yourself right, and your weight goals are sure to follow.

Be Kind...Pass It On

Have you ever heard the saying that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"? It's not enough to want to do good, and to try to do good...you really must also think about whether your actions actually had good result or not? Being a good person and doing good deeds comes easy to so many people, and for others,...not so much. Statistics in the past have shown how students, entertainers, athletes, philanthropists and regular people do good every day! Why? It's how they were raised and it's what they know. My parents instilled in myself and my siblings from the time we were young to be kind to others, even strangers. We went by the old rules, treat others the way you'd like to be treated. We do this because it is the right thing to do, and it makes you feel good when you do a good deed...we do it because we want to, not because we have to.

Don't try to be a good person because your parents told you to,..trust me, you're not doing anyone any favors here...Do it for you, because you want recognition or respect, or for any kind of reward except your own satisfaction in doing what you believe is good. Never act superior to anyone else or brag about your "goodness" or "righteousness". What does this mean? Allow me to repeat myself...Be good for a reason, not just because it makes you look good.

What does doing a good deed mean to you? It's not about expecting something in return. If that's what you think this article is about STOP reading right now and go take a look in the mirror because you have some issues. Ultimately, you have to decide on your own code of ethics, and what matters is that you follow through with what you believe makes you a good person. At times, this may conflict with what others believe is good, and they might even accuse you of being quite evil. Consider their views. Either they know something you don't, in which case you may learn something from them and update your morality, or perhaps their experience is limited, meaning that you should take their views with a grain of salt. You're smart, so you can make your own decision.

Give people the benefit of the doubt! To the extent that it doesn't jeopardize your safety (like getting in the car with a group of people you just met), assume each person you meet is a good person, and act likewise. If you see someone do something that you think bad, consider what they are dealing with in the context of their own life-don't jump to conclusions.

Instead of focusing on the bad things happening around you, find reasons to dwell on the good. You know that old saying...turn the bad into something good. Notice small kindnesses that you find yourself or other people doing, and constantly remind yourself of the things for which you're grateful. Feeling like you are surrounded by good acts and nice people will inspire you to do more good yourself.

Try to be more proactive! By doing so, you are avoiding any form of bad behavior, you've made a big step towards becoming a good person, but you've only just begun. In order to be good, you actually have to do good things rather than just avoid doing bad things.

What should you get from this? Learn from it! Constantly improve your understanding of what goodness means and demonstrate it to others whether it be your spouse, partner, lover, your children, friends, coworkers, or total strangers. Observe subtle or complex situations and consider just how you would act in such a position. You can also learn from your own mistakes, from others, and from history...we can always make improvements in our lives. What are you waiting for...Hop to it!

Know the Risks with Gastric Bypass Surgery

I'd like to share some things with you about Gastric bypass. If you are considering Gastric bypass surgery, you should know the risks as well as the many benefits to the obese person who wants to live a healthier life. Some of these benefits include weight loss and possible elimination of heart trouble, diabetes, and arthritis or back problems. In addition, there is a very good change that the person will be able to engage in activities, such as team sports, like never before. Not only that, but chances are that the patient may only experience minor problems after surgery such as nausea, vomiting, bloating, gas, diarrhea, or constipation. They may also lose their ability to drink alcohol. These may be results a person could easily live with considering the better quality of life they could have.

They deserve fair warning that there are more serious risks involved in this operation. The risks of the gastric bypass operation are further complicated in an obese person than an abdominal surgery in a patient who is not overweight. Pay close attention and think this one through. These are complications due to preexisting conditions that the patient has not told the doctor about, or they can be complications that could develop unexpectedly. This is often the case, because of the fact that the person has been overweight to begin with, so complications could happen at any time.

Some of the risks of a gastric bypass surgery include upper respiratory problems and possible pneumonia, and other risks consist of infection, bleeding, and inflammation of the intestines. In addition to that, there can be abdominal blockage or leakage around surgical connection site, or around stomach outlets. Either that, or a patient could contract a stomach ulcer, or the staple line in the stomach could break down. Some of the earlier described stomach sewing complications can be prevented if the patient receiving the surgery knows that the surgeon is experienced enough to be performing the surgery. However, sometimes even under the most ideal conditions, existing stomach problems, including the loosening of the seams of the staple line of the stomach ca become a problem.

Nutritional deficiencies after gastric bypass surgery include anemia, osteoporosis, or metabolic bone disease. These deficiencies, however, can most likely be corrected if one follows the diet that the doctor has ordered for a gastric bypass patient. Another disease that could be contracted via this  is gall bladder disease, or the patient could experience blood clotting which can result in a heart attack or stroke. Take this very serious. Although this risk is very low, especially after the weight is lost. Remember, the more weight the patient loses, the less likely that patient’s body is to develop complications such as this.

Aside from other risks, there is a slight chance of death in gastric bypass patients. The risk of death depends upon each individual's health problems and other existing risk factors. The chance of death from this operation is from ½ percent to 2 percent. Death in a patient of this procedure is highly unlikely, but a possibility. In order to prevent death from surgery, it is best for the surgeon and patient to be as thorough as possible when discussing the overall medical condition of that person prior to surgery.

In conclusion, one should note that there are risks involved in gastric bypass surgery, but those risks are different for each person. If the doctor says a person is less at risk, then mostly that person will benefit from the gastric bypass with little to no complications. Also, a person should be aware that there are three different types of operations involved in gastric bypass surgery. Knowing this will help reassure that there are options available, which would increase the overall success of the operation’s success.

One of the gastric bypass operations involves the Roux-en-Y Procedure in which the surgeon staples across the top portion of the stomach, creating a small stomach pouch. This new stomach pouch is then connected to the small intestine. This will help reduce the amount of food eaten, and reduce the absorption of calories eaten. If the person has gallstones, the surgeon can remove the gall bladder to prevent further formation of these stones.

The second type of Gastric Bypass surgery is the Laparoscopic surgery. In this type of surgery, the surgeon makes tiny incisions through the abdomen in which the patient is operated on with the use of a laparascope, which is a fiber optic tube which has a small camera on it. This small camera allows the insides of the person under the abdomen to be seen clearly during the procedure. Then, as in the first procedure, the doctor sews the stomach shut to create a pouch.

The third type of procedure used during gastric bypass surgery involves the use of a silicone band to create a small pouch using the top portion of the stomach. This helps reduce appetite while not interrupting the normal digestion process. A person can have one of these three operations done, usually with little to no risk if properly prepared for surgery, and properly treated during and after surgery. However, a patient needs to always be aware of any and all risks associated with the gastric bypass surgery. I always suggest getting a second opinion always before you do something serious such as this type of surgery.

Women, Stress and Anxiety....

I am the kind of person who can't sit still. Even if I try to, somehow I always find something to do to keep moving. Often I think that by doing these things I am avoiding the inevitable, STRESS. Stress leads to anxiety. It can build up and if you aren't careful, it can do great damage. Over the years, and in my own personal life I have learned that you can't hold it all inside and take on the world yourself. Believe me, I have tried. At one point I might have commented "Says who?" Now I know better. I've learned that great friends and family that love and support you can make all the difference, you just have to let them in!

Taking steps for reducing stress and anxiety in your life will not only give you serenity but can add years to your life, too. Stress puts both your body and your mind under strain. Short-term stress can’t be helped and we all have to make it through stressful situations.

You know how it is: You’re cruising along, feeling that all is well, when wham! — everything seems to fall apart at once. Your dishwasher breaks, the ice maker stops working and the cubes don't come out crushed, the lawn becomes infested by grubs, laundry piles up, work stress gets worse, oh... and your kid needs 40 cupcakes — by tomorrow morning! It’s all too much and now you feel like you’ve lost control of your life. Surprisingly, while we expect to be thrown off balance by the big crises in life (an illness, the loss of a job, the end of a relationship), experts believe it’s more often the steady pileup of smaller annoyances that makes us feel really powerless. So what do you do? Take control sister! Slow down, and take a deep breath. Did you know that long, slow breaths send oxygen throughout your body, which relaxes you and, in turn, helps clear your head. Try one- or two-minute deep-breathing sessions each morning and evening. Chores and responsibilities will build up if you allow them to, but who cares? They'll get done eventually. Don't try to be superwoman. Make a list of what needs to be done and prioritize it. Trust me, you are not the 'Drama Mama" you are just a woman trying to take on the world and even you could use a little back-up!

There are so many things that cause us stress, which leads to anxiety. The worst thing that anyone can do is to ignore stress.  No matter how long you don’t deal with it or how often you push it aside, it will always bounce back into your life unless you root it out. Did you know that by reducing stress and anxiety it enables you to move beyond the emotions and the struggle that keep you standing in the vast ocean trying to keep that ball away? Yes it does. The first step you should do is to limit the amount of external things that bring on more stress or aggravate the stress you already have. For example, if hearing sad stories on the radio upset you, turn the radio off. Don’t fill your mind with negative stories in any type of media. In case you haven’t noticed, the uplifting, positive articles rarely make the news. I almost hate watching the news because it is always so sad and depressing...at least 8 times out of 10 it is. Bad news can fill a person with anxiety. This too can be quite harmful.

Get rid of the negative from your life. If you have a friend who’s always pulling you down emotionally or tearing down your self-esteem, this is not a healthy relationship and it’s time to move on and do it quickly! Get rid of the negative people in your life that just keep adding to it. In the long run, it's not going to do you any good whatsoever! Look for events and people that introduce more laughter and joy into your life. Shut off the television and get on your feet. It’s a proven fact that exercise is a great way to get rid of anxiety along with stress. If a negative thought pops into your mind, refuse to dwell on it.Don't let the negativity win and control your happiness. I am a good example of this next one....Don’t bottle up your emotions and assume no one wants to listen to what’s going on in your life. Make time with a good friend to sit and talk about how you’re feeling.

By reducing stress and anxiety in your life, you’ll start to feel more relaxed and happier and in the end you'll be a much better you! Don't try to do it all by yourself. ASK FOR HELP! Don't try to take on the world alone. Make that list and check and don't get upset if it doesn't all get done today. I'm the queen of sticky notes and at times I get overwhelmed and feel like I am never going to get everything finished...fear not. You will. Tomorrow is another day...

A Must Read Book..."This Generation, No Imagination"

We often wonder  day in and day out...what is going on with this generation? Nothing is the way that it used to be. When we were kids there were so many things to do and we never got into any big trouble, and if we did, it was nothing like what goes on in society today with kids. We had chores to do, and we listened to our elders. This meant listening to our parents, and our grandparents and we did what they said. We didn't talk back, and if we happened, it only occurred once. We respected others. Today, there is more violence, and bullying is on the rise not just amongst children and teens, but now even so with more and adults. Things are no longer the same, and boy have times changed!

A good friend of mine has recently written a book about his life and his past. I highly recommend that you pick a copy up today! My name is Michele Savin and I am the owner of Simply Delicious Lingerie, and it's sister company; Simply Luscious Lingerie. I have been friends with Ed Dwyer for years. He always supported me whether it be in my personal life or in my business ventures. Please help me as I gather support now Ed now. He is a really great guy that writes from his heart. He tells stories of his childhood past like that of no other. His book is selling currently at Amazon.com. This is the first of hopefully many books. Best wishes to you Ed! Everyone...Pick this book up today!

Here's a little sneak peek about the book;

THIS GENERATION, NO IMAGINATION

Ever wonder what makes a person want to write a book? Well, now I have the answer! For me, it was a matter of simply reliving my childhood, a little reminiscing about the good ol’, care free, never-knew-we-had-it-so-good days of just being a kid.
Actually, to be honest with you, it came to me only after trying to help two women raise their kids at two different times in my life. I quickly discovered that the kids could not entertain themselves; they were totally lost without some outside medium to focus their attention on – clueless as to what the good Lord gave them brains for. Never once did they attempt to use their imagination.

For us, it was a different story. Our parents kicked us out of the house, per se, and we dare not return until later in the day. We had no video games, no twenty-four-hour cartoon network, no computers or Internet, and no iPods. There were a large number of kids and small houses, and we had to come up with things to do. So, the following stories were born. We were jackasses long before them; of course, that was just a symptom of passionate imaginations. Years had to pass – at least until the Statute of limitations was up. Mother and Father, forgive us, for we definitely did not know what we were doing.

Life is ALL About Friendship...

When people ask me..."Michele, why are you always happy?" I generally respond with the same answer..."Life is good, family is wonderful and my friends are at what keep me going!" What makes a a good friendship? I have been asked this many times and after much contemplation my answer is 'loyalty and integrity.' I have decided to write an article around the words that I feel are essential to any friendship and of course the words integrity, and loyalty rank high amongst them. Friends are the fundamental element on which our life and the journey of relationships are based. It is all about meeting people who can really become true best friends. A person need not just have one best friend. I have several generous friends that have always stood by me. Can you honestly, tell the difference between an ordinary and a loyal friend? My friends are extraordinary!

There are a lot of things that a true friend is, and for those that I have, I say thank you for always having my back, for not judging me, for supporting me when things went good as well as when things went not so good...but most of all I say thank you for never letting me down, for never giving up on me, and for never throwing in the towel when so many others would have. Whether I see you all every day or once a year, or not for 5 years, I have much respect for all of my friends and appreciate their support and wisdom. We live in a world where selfishness seems to be the rule of the day, and personal gain the objective of most relationships and endeavors. One of the most honorable character traits a person can develop is the ability to be loyal.

There is a difference between an ordinary and a loyal friend. It is the support and care they provide. True and loyal friends will always stand by your side and they will ultimately provide you what you need in any of the circumstances. You would be able to take out a lot from his or her company and knowledge. They won’t ask for a payback even if they do a lot. You should consider the difference between an ordinary and a loyal friend so you can have a group of people that are worthwhile and essential. A friend's loyalty is a wonderful virtue. When loyalty is missing other values will certainly suffer in any friendship. This is a quality that you should look for in a friend, as friendships can be very complicated at times, but loyalty between friends will hold the friendship together.

Do you completely understand what being loyal means? You must be willing to allow your own interests to take second place to be truly loyal to another person or cause. Loyalty is simply the act of putting someone or something else ahead of ones self.

Look for reward and appreciation in your efforts to be loyal. Being loyal to an unappreciative person or group is not very rewarding, and although this implies a selfish motivation for your loyalty, it is a practical thing to expect the person or group to which you give your loyalty to be loyal to you in return. My friends all knew how difficult and how extremely challenging the business world would be for me, especially since I declined so many offers of investors. The problem.issues that were attached with taking on an investor or more was that my hard work was about to get put on the back burner and I would pretty much be working in a sense for them. I was not at all willing to give up share of my hard work for someone else that dangled cash in front of me. I'm sorry, but no job, nor my integrity, blood sweat and tears was worth that to me. These were my dreams and my visions that I have had and shared with my friends for as long as I can remember, and making these dreams my reality didn't come easy. I work endless hours, I have taken classes and more classes. I push myself and keep on pushing because one day, my dreams are for my business names to be known and when they are..., it will all of been worth this tough road that I have traveled for the past few years.

My grandmother used to always say that if you were going to dream, to dream BIG! That's how I was raised and that is how I raised both of my children. If you don't fail, you've never tried. If you give up, you'll never know, and if you quit, someone else will jump on the chance to steal your thunder. I am blessed with the friends and family in my life, for if it not have been for so many of you, I would not be the person that I am today...a woman with high hopes that wants to make life better, reality more than just a dream, and a work environment a much better place.

What is being STUBBORN?

Listen, I wrote the book on it. I used to make my mother so angry...and I still do. Why? Well,  generally it's my way or the highway. I pull the old "Lalala I Can't Hear You" card. When I want to get something done there is NO stopping me and I am hell bent on doing it,...just ask my family. The word "NO" is not part of my vocabulary. If you say no, I say yes. So how stubborn am I? Well, I might piss you off, and you may not like me, but guess what? I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I don't let others rain on my parade. Life is far too short to care about what everyone else thinks. Do what is best for you! So stubborn kicks in and we all get to know this word quite well. Let me just start by saying that some words just get a real bad reputation, and “stubborn” just so happens to be one of them. Maybe it’s because we’ve all been called stubborn at some point in our lives, and it probably wasn’t meant in a positive way. But sometimes being stubborn can be the best thing for you!

So, what about being stubborn is good? When you stick to your guns to get what you know is the right thing for you. When you are true to yourself. Being stubborn can end up ruining your chances in life if you don't learn to put limits on your stubbornness. Sometimes standing your ground is important but so is compromise, so is cooperation, and so is collaboration. If you are finding that it is all about you when you put down that foot and firmly refuse to budge on anything, then perhaps it is time to start realizing that your demands are too demanding on others and are likely getting you alienated from activities, friendships, and even good job prospects. It is time to change and take charge of your wish to be so stubborn; temper it with the reality that all humans need to get along and none of us perfect, nor right, a lot of the time. This is when others finally begin to take you serious!

Remind yourself that you are not always right. While listening to someone talk, you may think in your head that everything they say is wrong because you heard "the right way." Remember that what you may have heard may not be the right thing and they could be right instead. And your opinion is not the only one that matters, neither are your knowledge necessarily correct. You have to accept that you learn something new everyday, even if it overwrites something that you maybe thought you already knew. This was difficult for me to write to you because I cannot take my own advice. I am as thick headed and as stubborn as they come. I'm great at telling you all how to 'not be stubborn' but it's not that easy...and it's my Irish blood! I'm not always right, but I'll fight tooth and nail to say that I am, without hesitation.

Keep an open mind. Don't have prejudice, or judge people. Enter any discussion and situation with an open, positive mind, allowing you to thoroughly rethink and consider any persons opinions before taking rash decisions because of the judgement that you may have at that moment.

Trust other people, not just yourself! For me this is a real big issue. So many people in my life over and over have let me down that I have this stone wall built up around me and it is really hard to get in. As mentioned though, you are not always right, and I'm not always right. I do admit when I am wrong. Trust that other people aren't as selfish as you think they are. They're not going to take advantage of you the second you stop fighting tooth and nail for your objectives. For the odd ones who do, it becomes apparent very quickly and you can then distance yourself, reminding yourself that what matters is, you did your part, you at least tried.

Try to understand that being stubborn is good in some cases... In a case where you know that you are right, or you are defending something dear, and in a case that the decision is yours to take, and the consequences are your to face, then you might be right to be stubborn. Realize that these moments may appear any time and you won't always know how to react, but you should go with your instinct follow your gut because my grandmother always told me that it will NEVER steer you wrong, and be a strong person! Think positive!
