5 Easy StepsTo Tone Your Thighs and Tush!

Most people think of exercising as if it is a chore. If we got as excited about exercising as we do putting a delicious new dessert in our mouths we'd all have lean mean bodies! The truth at hand is this; it sounds good to exercise and get healthy, but in reality most people start it with good intentions but then just quit. It's a New Year's Resolution gone bad. I can look at delicious food and sweets and my thighs get larger without even eating, or so at least it seems. It's so easy to pop yummy treats in our mouths but after a while, those calories have a way of catching up to us. At my age, I certainly am more health concious about my weight. After all, gravity is setting in and I want to keep my body tone and my tush somewhat tight. I don't want to be 50 and look 75. I want to be 50 and look and feel 35! With a few easy exercises a day, you too can tone your thighs and your tush. Don't think of it as a chore, make it fun! Crank up the music and know that within a few weeks you'll look and feel better about yourself! Don't just sit around with the girls waiting for the fat to melt!

5 Exercises that will work magic on thighs and tone your tush;

1) Cycling- No, I'm not talking about going out and taking on the world on your bike...I'm talking about cycling on a stationary bike in the privacy of your own home. Did you know that by simply taking s spin for 45 minutes doing 10 minute intervals of low-resistance pedaling followed by a five minute low-resistance cool down your body is burning fat? Ok, now image if you did this every day? The fat would begin to melt away.

2) Leg Raises- Not sure what these are? (this is what my grandma called them when I was a kid) You can call them whatever you like….I call it hard work but getting the job done! Sit on the floor with your back leaning against a wall. Point your legs straight out in front of you. Now, slowly raise your left leg about six inches to a foot off the floor and hold it! You'll want to lower and repeat this movement then with the right leg. Keep repeating switching back and forth from the left to the right leg until you've done about 25-30 lifts with each leg. As the days go by, increase this so that within a week you are up to 40-50. This is a super easy way to tone the front of your thighs and you need no machinery to do it. If you would prefer laying flat on the floor thats fine too. Raise your legs in an upright position as if you were sitting and hold it for 15-20 seconds. Repeat this 10 times to start, then increase each time you do it. You'll feel your muscles aching in places that you forgot you had. This is the smell of fat burning and  your thighs, your tush tightening and also your tummy toning!

3) Work Your Ballet Moves- When I was a little girl, my grandma (Baba) used to watch Jack Lalanne on television. We didn't have a ton of money to spend of exercise machinery and gyms were not around yet…so try this; hold on to the back of a chair (any chair; your desk chair, the kitchen chair, etc.) Stand with your feet apart. Make sure that they are spread out wider than the width of the chair. Lower your back down into a squat position while keeping your back as straight as you can and tuck your butt in. Now…hold this for 3-5 seconds and then rise back up slowly. Repeat this 10-20 times. I used to do it to music so that I didn't get bored with it. Start with a low goal of maybe 20 and then increase it within a week or two. I used to make my goal 50. If you do this routinely every day it will surely tighten not only your thighs but your bitty as well.

4) Leg Raises- Sit on the floor with your back pressed up against the wall and point your legs straight out in front of you. Slowly raise your left leg about 6 inches to a foot off the floor and hold it for a few seconds. Lower it and then repeat with the other leg. While repeating with alternate legs do about 25 of these. You can also lay flat on the floor and raise your legs. This will accomplish the same purpose. You'll really begin to feel it and your thighs will thank you in a week or two when the are tone and not jiggly!

Last but not least….

5) Walking- this is absolutely the best exercise you can give your legs! If you aren't used to doing a lot of walking start out for 10 minutes, then 15, then within a week or two walk up to 30 minutes. Map out a route in your neighborhood or use the treadmill. Either way, just do it! Exercise is excellent for you. Anyone that says it isn't is probably a hot mess and really out of shape. Don't be that person. These are easy exercises that you can do in your house that require no monthly membership fees. If you want to spend money, spend it on a new outfit after you've done my 5 easy steps to a better YOU!

Your body is your house….and it's the only one you'll ever have, so watch what you put into your mouth, and take good care of it…because in return, it will take good care of you!!!

Shake the Weight Before Bikini Weather...

It sneaks up on us…one day its doom and gloom weather outside and the next…summer is just around the corner. Summer meaning "bikini weather!"Why is it that we feel good about ourselves throughout the year until right about now and then we realize that within a few short months we’ll be in bathing suits and beachwear? What happens? Well, we start to feel a bit insecure with what we are wearing and how we look? Is this normal? Being a woman, YES, it is very normal because we all worry about this issue. We feel fat, flabby, or we feel jiggly and then we turn around and look at ourselves in the mirror (or worse, in a three way mirror) and see more rolls than Mr. Tootsie on our tummy and waistline, cottage cheese on our legs and tushy. Talk about feeling overwhelmed...Good news! You can turn those droopy, jiggly cottage cheese days around and look good and feel great soon!

Don’t like exercise? Neither do I, but you can lose weight in just a few months for summer without a gym or even heavy dieting. Its just a few short rules that apply and if you want to look sexy you need to pay attention here…and if you are eating something that isn’t good for you right now while you are reading this…PUT IT DOWN and WALK AWAY from it!
Follow these easy-to-implement weight loss tips to help you shed those last 10 pounds before summertime:
1. Get active. What does this mean? Olivia Newton John once sang ‘lets get physical’ and I mean that in an exercising kind of way. Don't have money for the gym? Don't need it. Go to Kmart, or Target or Walmart, or Toys 'R'Us and buy yourself a hula hoop! Nothing shakes the inches and pounds off better than the hoop and it's fun! Your new goal from here on out should be to develop healthy habits. By practicing these, not only do you can burn calories without being strapped to an elliptical machine or device of some sort rather you are choosing habits that are simple to maintain, enjoyable, and productive.
•   Take the dog for a nice walk rather than opening the door and letting him out into the yard. Its better for you. Instead of stopping at the coffee shop in your car every morning, wake up fifteen minutes earlier to jog there before getting ready for work. Or get on your treadmill and run for 15 minutes.
•   Pick activities that relate to your life.  Take the dog for a walk, jog to the coffee shop, or jump rope…When you feel dedicated, your efforts are less likely to stagnate. If you like to shop, park your car further away from the mall and take those extra added steps to get to the main door. If you live in a city such as NYC like my kids do, walking is pretty much the only way of life and you see many people in shape there because they have to walk and exercise is terrific for your body! Remember, be positive!
•   Don’t try to do it alone...Ask someone else to join in! When there are two, or more, it makes it more fun! Getting an easygoing workout partner(s) might not be as easy as you think, but then again, if their goals are the same as yours it might be an easier task and it is a great way to keep activity levels up. Grab a neighbor and walk to the park every day. I see women walking on my street together every morning and every evening. You'll be amazed at how much you enjoy it and you’ll be more excited to see just how many calories you'll burn!
2. Dine in or dine out by eating delicious summer time meals. Summery meals are characterized by being refreshing, simple, tasty, and healthy. Even though summer is only peeking through the clouds right now, try to adapt to a summery diet of fruit bowls, spinach salads, grilled salmon, vegetable kebabs and other fresh options. Say no to the starchy high cholesterol foods. You can choose to eat these at home or by going out. If you go out just be careful and pay attention to what the foods are made with. Ask someone if you don’t see it listed on the menu.
•   It's okay to crave foods of sugar. Hey, we all love the sweets and goodies, but some choices are better than others. It's best to feed your sweet tooth now in order to avoid a binge later. Sweet treats like watermelon, frozen yogurt and grape tomatoes all make for summery, healthy, and satisfying snacks with low, low calories.
•   Use the grill. I LOVE GRILLING! To grill it is much better than to fry it. If you must fry, spray your pan with PAM or some kind of no-stick spray with little or zero calories. If you're making a Chicken Caesar salad, grill the chicken rather than simply baking or cooking in a pan. This adds visual interest and a nice smoky taste. You can also grill almost any vegetables that are going into the salad. Throw on some seasoning like Mrs. Dash or anything that adds some zest to the meal and gives it a little kick!
•   Prep your meals in advance. Plan your meals out. Make a schedule/planner for a week in advance and purchase what you'll need for those meals, that way you'll be less likely to buy something 'bad for you' if you are tempted to go into the grocery store for something every day.You main dishes such as salads and fruits are easy to prepare ahead and store in an airtight container. If you desire meats…try marinating your meat and fish rather than cooking it ahead because it can lose its moisture once cooked.

3. Wear your swimwear 24/7. Yup, that’s right, you heard me. Use it as a constant reminder. Wearing your bikini or swim trunks underneath your clothing is a simple and effective way to motivate yourself to stick to any diet, fitness, and weight loss goals you've set. If that is a bit much for you… then simply just try it on every day.
•   If you're not seeing the results you want to see, you'll be motivated to work harder. Push yourself to the limits. However, if you are seeing results, you'll be encouraged to increase your efforts because you like what you see and want more of it!
•   If you're uncomfy wearing a bikini, like so many women today are…choose the next best thing. Wear your "thin" summer clothes. Or purchase your ideal summer outfit in a realistic target size. Use this outfit as inspiration. The goal is to fit into it comfortably by the start of summertime.
•   Window-shopping is my favorite thing to do and it is also a good motivator. Sure you can go out and shop for ideas of what you might want to wear to feel good and sexy….but if you wish to take that one step further, head to your favorite  website such as; Simply Delicious Lingerie or Simply Luscious Lingerie. Sexy starts underneath your clothes with fun intimate apparel that makes you feel confident about who you are! Then, fill your shopping cart with items that will look fabulous on your smoking hot summer body! If you feel amazing in them then your partner, lover, boyfriend or spouse will love them as well! You can pretend-spend as much as you want without shelling out a dime until you select what you think will make you shine like a rock star in beauty!

Why We Need to Detox Our Body...

Detoxing? Who needs it? Well, the truth is, you just might! Does your body seem a bit off beat? Are you ornery, tired or moody? We're not perfect. Our bodies are our homes and truthfully, it's the only one that you'll ever have. If you really give this some thought, our bodies are a lot like appliances. Refrigerators for example...Let's compare; They come in all sizes, configurations and colors, and they hold our food and drink for utilization at the necessary time. And like refrigerators, our bodies occasionally get overcrowded, filled with stale or overripe food, and in need of a good scrubbing and cleaning from the inside out. Over time, a variety of toxins can build up in our system, digestion becomes sluggish, and we begin to feel generally ill. Dr. Oz and Oprah did a show on detoxing your body.He suggests rebooting your body by cleansing it.

Surprisingly enough, many people don’t realize that while they are piling things in their bodies like fatty foods, grease and lets also go as far as to say beer, liquors and medicines, the truth at hand is this; what goes on in our bellies can affect the rest of our body in negative ways! Tell me, are you feeling sluggish or out of tune these days? Are you dealing with skin problems, aches and joint pains, or digestive problems? Straying from your healthier habits lately? Having trouble kicking off your weight loss? I have had that issue (weight gain/dieting) several times....If so, It might be time to detox. Perhaps we're just feeding our bodies the wrong things. The body has its own natural healing system.

To put it to you in simple terms, detoxification really means cleaning the blood. It does this mainly by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. However, when this system is compromised, impurities aren't properly filtered and every cell in the body is adversely affected.  Everyone should detox at least once a year. Stress, which typically triggers your body to release stress hormones into your system. While these hormones can provide the "adrenaline rush" to win a race or meet a deadline, in large amounts they create toxins and slow down detoxification enzymes in the liver. So it's a good idea to detox stressful life situations along with detoxifying your body.Yoga is a very simple and effective ways to relieve stress by resetting your physical and mental reactions to the inevitable stress life will bring.

The road to feeling better is as simple as detoxifying and cleansing your system on a regular basis. What does that mean exactly? I'll state it quite simple; get rid of the junk in your trunk! Some common and less serious conditions that may be helped by an occasional detox include constipation, intestinal cramping, frequent urinary infections and even chronic bad breath. Symptoms of the more serious digestive disorders like Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome may also be relieved. However, detoxifying is in no way intended to treat or cure any disorders that require proper medical care. It just does the body good.

Detoxifying your body can be as simple or complex as you make it. If you’re frequently ill, eat on the run, or have digestive issues, a complete colon cleansing may be required to feel your best again. However, if you eat well and rarely get sick, you can cleanse by simply taking part in a 48-hour fast consisting of clear liquids. Just remember you are trying to rid your body of toxins and balance out the natural bacteria in the gut. Many cleansing products on the market help you accomplish this by flushing the kidneys, reviving the liver’s functions, and restoring the bacterial balance. Your body will thank you for the cleaning, trust me.

That’s a great start to get you moving back to wellness, but it’s not just your body that needs occasional cleaning. When was the last time you detoxed your mind?

Do you ever find it difficult to concentrate? Do you constantly berate yourself for your “failures” or neglect caring for yourself properly? If you have spent years besieged by negative or limiting thoughts, holding on to old grudges, emotional traumas and generally thinking badly about yourself, you probably have a lot of mental toxins that interfere with your day to day performance. yes, you heard me right, mental toxins!

Clearing these toxins out of your mind can be as simple as going on a “negativity fast” for a few weeks. Do your best to turn away from negativity in all forms. Avoid spending time with people who leave you feeling stressed or drained. For me that would be my mother. I love her but she drives me insane at time. Other things to try; Turn off the evening news, after all, it's usually really depressing, which is why I really dislike watching it myself. Instead, why not invest that time into reading positive material?

Oh, all right,.. If you absolutely must find out what’s happening in the world, or it is is Hollywood gossip you seek, do a quick skim of the news. If it is the headlines you wish to see, do it quickly on a major news network website – but do not read any of the stories unless there is a compelling reason why you need to do so. After a few days of this, you’ll quickly realize that the majority of stories don’t affect you personally and you really aren’t missing anything by avoiding them.

Once your mind begins to clear and we get all of that 'not-so-positive' clutter out, you’ll probably realize just how deeply enmeshed in negative thought patterns you really were. After a week or two of more positive thought patterns, you’ll likely find yourself feeling lighter and happier on a regular basis, nurturing your spirit and making your self-care a priority to do the things in life that are really important, quite more exciting and it will give you a much better outlook on your life today!

Detoxification is the process of eliminating toxic substances from your body. Before beginning any detox diet, it is always good to check with your doctor, especially if there are any health concerns.

Saunas are an effective way to detoxify the body, but not all saunas are created equal. Some saunas, particularly older models use regular heat. However the best saunas use infrared heat, which can penetrate the skin and don't require as high a temperature to be effective. Saunas cause the body to sweat, allowing toxins to escape through the body's largest organ, the skin. Infrared saunas are also purported to release toxins in adipose tissue allowing them to be flushed.

Suggestions on 'How to' DETOX:

 1. Lose the booze and tobacco!! Oh, and if you can part with caffeine then lose that as well. But if you're a coffee-junkie then try to cut your intake to just to 1-2 cups in the morning.

2. Lose the sugar and white flour.

3. Lose the meat and all processed foods. If you can't lose all the meat then cut down your intake and stick to grass-fed, organic meat. Stick to "whole foods" -- foods that don't have labels, like fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

4.
Add lots of fiber. (Once again, plenty of organic fruits and veggies. Blueberries are great, so is celery).

5. Add lots of water and natural juices (maybe some coconut oil or kombucha).  Plenty of liquids are key to any successful detox so try to consume at least 12-16 glasses per day (8oz to a glass).
6. Add some exercise, preferably yoga. If yoga is not your thing then walking for 20-30 minutes at a good pace should suffice.

7. Get rest and meditate! Try for 8 hours of sleep.

Men and Sexy Six Packs...

While men desire women in sexy lingerie, there are a few things that make women say "Ohhh-la-la!" Yup, I'm talking about sexy pecs and a hottie six pack. Every man wants them but they don't come about over night. They take hours and long days at the gym trying to acquire this. The secret to success is enticing and alluring enough to make men work hard to achieve the long term goal of a perfect six pack! Find me a woman that doesn't love a man with nice pecs and a six pack and I'll eat my hat. Every woman finds a man sexy that has a body that is physically fit and stunning. While they are working hard to achieve this, we are gawking at them with drool coming out of our mouths and all choked up, we realize that they look amazing... these six packs that man have and we women adore!

The secret to six-pack abs is not just about the abdominal exercises that a person chooses, but is also about the food that an individual puts into his or her body. The first step to six-pack abs is to choose the right exercises for an overall abdominal workout. There are six different kinds of abdominal muscles in the human body. Many people do not know that abdominal muscles run from the ribs all the way down to the pelvic bone! Not only is it important to exercise the abdominals to look good, but it is important in helping overall posture and injury prevention. Abdominal muscles can be worked each day because they are very difficult to fatigue. There are many articles that suggest the abs can only be worked 3 to 5 days out of the week, but this isn't true. These muscles are one of the only set of muscles that can be worked each and every day and will help to strengthen the overall body.

So, what are the best exercises to strengthen abdominal muscles? Believe it or not, an exercise ball is one of the best ways to work most abdominal muscles depending upon the exercises that are chosen. With the purchase of an exercise ball, there are generally videos or written guides that show abdominal exercises and their targeted areas.
If you are a member of a gym, look for the captain’s chair in order to gain one of the best abdominal workouts. This is usually a piece of equipment that an individual steps up into, holds onto two bars at his or her sides, and completes a set of leg raises. Variations of leg raises can work different portions of the abdominal muscles.

Lastly, some of the best abdominal workouts are ones that you can do at home with a floor mat. Lying with your back to the floor and your legs in the air, place your hands behind your head and make a bicycling motion with your legs. This exercise is one of the best to improve the strength and tone of abdominal muscles and simultaneously helps to improve posture. Not only is an appropriate exercise routine necessary for improving abdominal muscles, but a correct diet is absolutely essential. Most of the time, good nutrition can make the difference between whether or not someone can have a six pack.

What this generally translates to for gym enthusiasts is that they must maintain a diet that is void of carbohydrates and fats; but this is not the answer! Eating foods that contain B5 (i.e. natural peanut butter) or taking a supplement containing the vitamin can help to reduce cortisol levels in the body.
Fish or other foods that contain Omega-3 are also important to good nutrition and a healthy body. Omega-3 is important for providing energy, sustaining a high metabolism, and reducing sugars in the body. If these foods are not available to you, it is important to supplement Omega-3 in your diet. Omega-3 is found in fish oil, which can be purchased from almost any store that sells vitamins and supplements.

Lastly, eating fruits and vegetables (especially grapefruit) can have a significant effect on weight loss and reducing the level of fat on the human body. Because fruits and vegetables are mostly water and contain high amounts of minerals and vitamins, they are absolutely necessary for reducing weight and helping to maintain the natural sugar levels in the body.

Hey guys, it may be very difficult to change the manner in which you eat, but it is absolutely essential if you want six-pack abs. Those that choose to change their diets tend to find that good eating habits become easier over time. It takes at least a month to change a habit fully; and if an individual truly wants to see results with their body, they must at least commit to one month of eating right each and every day. Those that have changed their diets say that their palate for food usually also changes after a couple weeks. Those items that once tasted fantastic (i.e. chocolate, ice cream, and cookies) generally do not taste as good given enough time away from them. Cut out the junk and you'll be on your way to a happier more fit YOU!

Low Fat Diets and Being Overweight

Before we can begin to figure this out, we need to grasp the reality of this and understand the problem. It has been said that excess body weight is known to increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, pulmonary disease, and diabetes. Furthermore, a recent study suggested that increased body weight is related to an elevated risk of mortality from cancer. Since pre-existing chronic disease can lead to weight loss, this study also included alternative analyses that disregarded deaths occurring soon after enrollment and restricted the assessment to groups without pre-existing disease. In addition, the researchers adjusted for pre-existing disease by asking older participants to report their weight as it was when they were 50 years old. Examining weight at an earlier age provides a measure of typical adult weight that is largely unaffected by the onset of chronic disease.

Did you know that two out of three Americans are considered overweight? The primary cause is that we eat more and exercise less. There is no doubt that the more advances we make that enhance our lifestyle the heavier we become. Hold up...and wait a minute! What about all those low-fat foods that we eat now? Most people on low fat diets ask...How come I reduced fat in my diet but I’m still gaining weight? That's a simple answer. A few years ago we all became aware of the detrimental effects of fat in our diet. So what did we do? We began to concentrate on lowering cholesterol and taking fat out of our diets. This is a good thing. However, The National Center for Health Statistics studied eating habits of 8,260 adult American between 1998 and 2005. Their research showed that Americans had significantly reduced their fat intake but still packed on the pounds. How can this happen? There is no mystery. In the process of counting fat grams, we stopped counting calories! There's your problem.

Many of us bought in to the theory that if it’s “low-fat” it won’t make us fat...WRONG!
Did you fall off a turnip truck yesterday? Listen, you seriously can’t forget about counting calories. If you eat more calories than you need the body will store them as fat. It doesn’t matter whether the calories are from fat or carbohydrates. One school of thought believes that eating small amounts of fat can actually keep you from over indulging on total calories. The theory is that dietary fat causes our bodies to produce a hormone that tells the intestines to slow down the emptying process. You feel full and therefore are less likely to overeat. Adding a little peanut butter to your rice cake may satisfy your hunger for a longer period of time, thus preventing you from eating more than you need. Here’s more news that is surprising.

Tufts University scientists put 11 middle aged men and women volunteers on a variety of average, reduced and low-fat diets. The results? Extremely low-fat diets which provided only 15 percent fat from calories (this is a diet near impossible in real life) did have a positive effect on blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. However, a reduced-fat diet (much more realistic) only affected those levels if accompanied by weight loss.

In fact, they concluded, cutting fat without losing weight actually increased triglyceride levels and decreased high density lipoproteins (HDL), the “good” cholesterol that helps protect again heart disease, and none of us want heart disease! Take care of your body, I say this daily..it's the only home you'll ever have and you cannot be replaced! Are you picking up what I'm laying down here?

So what can we do about this HDL and how can our bodies fight that 'bad?' We can deduce, therefore, while excess fat isn’t healthy, fat is also not necessarily a bad thing. Without some fat in our diet, the body won’t make nerve cells and hormones or absorb some of the fat soluble vitamins.Okay, so how can you determine your ideal weight? Just how much fat and how many calories should you consume to reach and maintain a healthy weight? The truth is, one answer just won't work for everyone... So you need to do some figuring to determine how much fat and how many calories you can have.Remember, take care of yourself, and seek the advice of a professional.

Beauty Secrets for Everyone to Follow...

We know that there is no fountain of youth, but what if I told you that all you need to really do is to reevaluate your lifestyle and eating habits? Little do we know, or fully understand this but it can make a difference and in some cases, even save a life. Be aware of what you put into your body. It's not made with an armored shield and it does break down. We are human and we need to have a better understanding of healthy issues and limit our bodies to a certain amount of things that are bad for you, while increasing the nutrients and such that are good for you! Here's a quick note for you regarding what you need to do to gain a much more healthy "you!"

Water, you need water....lots of it! Try to add at least 4 more glasses of water to your daily diet. The rule of thumb for water is 8 glasses per day; and one extra for every ten pounds overweight you are.

Fats, you need to know about fats. There are different kinds of fats. Some fats are better for you than others. A rule of thumb on fats is, stay away from hydrogenated fats. These are fats that solidify. They are in store bought cakes, cookies, crackers, chips and even in bran muffins. Read the labels.

Choose fats that are polyunsaturated or fats such as olive oil. And, eat some fish to get some omega-3 fats. Carbohydrates - Are your immediate fuel source. An average is about 55 percent of your diet in carbohydrates. So, a rule of thumb is, figure your protein grams, get around 25% fat per day, and the rest would be in carbohydrates.
The heavier you are, the more protein you need the less carbohydrates you will need.

Fiber - work up to getting 25 grams of Fiber per day.

Protein - averages about 20 percent.
Divide weight by 2.2 and multiply that by .8 to get the kilograms.
For men it is averages as one gram per each kilogram of weight. So, a man would divide their weight in pounds 2.2 then multiply that by .10

Fats - try not to exceed more than 25 percent fat in your daily diet. 30 is fine, too. That does not mean you can't have a junk food fast food hamburger... it just means that if you do eat that 55 percent fat burger that you are going to have to cut down on other fat filled foods for the rest of the day to balance it out.
Make exchanges gradually. Suppose you drink whole milk...work down to 2 percent. Maybe replacing two of your cups per day until you can completely change over. If you are on two percent milk, work down to 1 percent.

Add bran to your cereals for extra fiber. Do add it in your baking.
