What is Fashion?

What is fashion? Why is it so important? Do you recall the quote that Mark Twain once wrote? It went something like this; "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." What does that mean you to? Personally I do believe that it is the clothes that make the man/woman. From our Simply Delicious Lingerie and undergarments to our Diesel or Rock & Republic jeans to our Jimmy Choo, Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Spade and Dior clothing and accessories... what we wear has, for centuries, spoken volumes about who we are, what we do, and what we want. It's the truth. To some this is so shallow, nonetheless, in the world of fashion it is of the highest priority. Am I stating that everyone must own designer labels, no. It means that it is all about your class and savvy ways. Create a fashion statement and you be the superstar! It's not what you wear, rather how you wear it.

Whether Americans have dressed to make a political statement, to assert their class status, or simply to be irreverent, every style has carried a certain social meaning. This is in part because our culture has long ascribed great significance to individuals' public image. The clothing industry is one of the least sustainable industries around. Everyone buys new clothes and they shop around until they find exactly what they are searching for. Lucky for me, I have two kids, whom adore fashion and designer clothing. I have a very biased opinion...each of them are both pretty 'on style' on fashion trends and they keep me dressed very classy and fun! I get the dos and donts from them often, and I seek their help with wardrobe issues and malfunctions all the time! If there is one thing that I've learned over the years is always have back-up, or as most call it a Plan B outfit ready to go just in case you spill your coffee or drop a bagel with cream cheese down your blouse.

Fashion can also be used as a form of self-expression and adornment. People may dress to identify with a specific group of people, or with a particular performing artist they adore. Alternately, some people deliberately stray from mainstream fashion because they want to be seen as unique and one-of-a-kind. Others may choose not to follow mainstream fashion simply because it isn't important to them. If the way in which an individual dresses is not accepted by the culture and society in which the person wants to be accepted into, then the way in which the individual chooses to dress may change.

Fashion is ultimately important because it is a form of communication. You are communicating to others who you are and what is important to you, whether or not you realize it. The same way of dressing could be viewed completely different in two or more areas of the world. Therefore, it is important to be aware of what is acceptable and what is not in a given society.

What does your image say about you? For instance...
A woman's fashion personality says who she is, and it's expressed by her style. Most of us lean toward one particular type of fashion personality, although we may sometimes wear styles that are more closely related to another. What's your fashion personality? Do you view yourself as having a classic, romantic, trendy, or casual style? Think Audrey Hepburn wearing her little black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany's...in my personal opinion, wow! Now that's classic fashion. Women who have a classic fashion personality love timeless fashion designs--tailored trousers; single-breasted, semi-fitted jackets; sleek pumps. Because classic style stands the test of time well, the classic fashion personality type is often able to wear her clothing and fashion accessories for years. Wow! The way she dressed made a statement. This was the classic fashion personality.

What about romantic fashion personality? Women who have a romantic fashion personality type can imagine themselves in a Victorian setting wearing long, ground-sweeping hoop skirts. Ruffles, frills, lace, and other feminine details are all on their radar screens. Because the romantic fashion personality takes her style influence from the past, she sometimes looks a bit out of place in the modern world, but on the plus side, hers is the most feminine way of dressing and the one that will draw in the eyes of someone who sees her potential worth.

What about the trendy fashion personality? I say bring it on! It's all about the latest, newest, cutting-edge fashion designs in both clothing and accessories. These all catch the attention of the woman with a trendy fashion personality, and they very well should, fashion is quite important and we all want to dress to the 9's. Her friends are likely to consult her when it comes to fashion because they know she's always on top of the trends, and she's shopping for the newest styles before they even arrive in the stores.

Hello? What about the casual, comfy fashion trendy gal?  Well, they say that comfy is the mantra of the woman with a casual fashion personality. I find a lot of truth in that statement. She wants to live her life free of the restrictions of fashion, so she avoids high heels and shapewear that sucks her flab or curves in like the plague and may not even own a dress. Hey, I say to each his own. She may be a bit confused by style, but, on the other hand, she'll never be at the mercy of fashion. Tiptoeing around on six-inch stilettos is definitely not her idea of fun; so what is exactly? That's a silly question; how about flip-flops and sneakers? These are much more to her liking, and so much more comfortable.

The bottom line is simple....To some people, it's not always about being on your game and always looking stunning,...for some it is fashion enough just getting dressed in the morning and feeling good about themselves. The confidence you carry with each step you take is what makes you...YOU~

Self Confidence Is Style...

While it's nice to think that appearances don't matter, the fact is that you clothes can have an effect on your self-confidence. True or false? So very true! With that being said, the only important thing is how you feel about the clothing you wear, not what others may think about it. Style is essential to one these days. The way that you dress is noticed by many, but regardless of just how many view you and form an opinion, you have to be happy with 'you' first and foremost.

Dress in a way that makes you feel confident and everything else will fall into place. Finding your own style is a great way to feel more confident about the clothes you wear. Look to fashion magazines, catalogs and your stylish friends and associates for inspiration, but then create a look that's entirely your own. Whether you prefer a tailored look or basic, whatever makes you feel comfortable with yourself is the right choice and it is YOUR CHOICE! Remember, whatever you choose to wear, make certain that the intimate apparel that you are wearing under the business attire is fabulous! Make sure that you shop Simply Delicious Lingerie.

There are times when you'll need to ignore this personal style and wear clothes that are appropriate for a certain occasion. When you're faced with such an event, or even if you have to do it every day for your job, find a way to make the required dress work for you, perhaps by adding your own style with subtle accessories.Give it a twist all of your own. No one ever said you had to follow the trends. I don't. It's nice to blend in, but it is likewise nice to march to the beat of your own drum. I like being different, it's unique and it certainly sets you apart amongst your peers.

A person's style includes many distinct elements and what you wear indicates to others who you are. Decisions concerning style should be determined by environment, the need to meet certain expectations to gain your desired result. It is a commonly held belief that people will get ahead if they standout in terms of style, but research does not support this. In fact, we sometimes become suspicious of those who are too unusual or different from our expectations. Bearing this in mind, the following should be taken into account when trying to create the right impression....Still not sure how to mix and match what you have in that closet? What are the right and wrong colors for you, the right trends? We've got the answers. I was raised to show a certain demeanor. Looking and acting professional goes a long way.

WOMEN'S SUITS, TROUSERS, AND DRESSES

Women who wear ladylike feminine-cut suits, or skirts, and matching jackets with simple white, off-white or pale-colored blouses are not only seen as strong and confident, but also as trustworthy, likable, and humble, but keep in mind that this might not work for all careers.

In more high-fashion professions, the suit should be more stylish, with more expressive accessories with your goal being a "ladylike" but professional look. Suits should be soft and feminine and strike a balance between understated and conservative, feminine and fashionable. Colors can range from navy, grey, and blue to cream and mahogany. The look should be rich but businesslike.

A masculine-cut suit reflects more power and authority, but will be interpreted as more aggressive and domineering and less creative. A feminine-cut suit will show more expressiveness, and a heightened level of approachability, professionalism and confidence. Slacks and a jacket, or a dress, and a jacket is even more approachable, but less professional. A pant-suit is less professional and will not enhance your image of approachability. A dress without a jacket is the least professional alternative.

WOMEN'S SHOES

Trendy styles have the same negative associations and stereotypes as other parts of your wardrobe. More functional shoes enhance image as long as they are not too flashy. Less functional but more stylish shoes send a message that you are more concerned with appearance than performance. If women wear heels taller than two inches they accentuate their sexuality. Boots should not be worn with dress attire unless they are very frequently worn by others in your professional environment. Generally they look tacky. Shoes that are simple and elegant are best. Closed toe pumps with one and a half inch heels top the list. Shorter women can wear two inch heels but they should not be spiked heels. Stay with basic colors and don't try to match your shoes to bright colored clothing. Always keep your shoes clean and polished for a professional look. If I had my choice, and could constantly afford to dress to the 9s I would wear Jimmy Choo and Prada, my two favorite designers. They scream class, success, and confidence!

COLORS - THEIR EFFECT ON OTHERS

Colors have a very powerful way of affecting our impressions both of people. Colors can affect our impression of such traits as status, effectiveness, attitude, credibility, friendliness and intelligence. Most colors can be grouped into one of six general categories, each of which conveys a distinct set of messages.
  1. Black, dark blue and dark charcoal grey are strong authoritarian colours. Those in positions of leadership, or authority will project an image of no-nonsense confidence, strength and power. Black is also seen as serious, secretive, mysterious and depressing. For that reason, those who dress in black are not rated as warm and friendly. People at the top of an organization wear black effectively, but also service oriented occupations such as drivers and waiters are often seen in black. It is often said that black is stylish and sophisticated and makes you look thinner. That's true, but it's popularity doesn't overcome the stereotypes and emotional responses it evokes.
  2. Lighter shades of grey and navy blue are also associated with power, authority, leadership and even loyalty. Unlike dark grey and black, studies show that they are warmer and more approachable. For men, navy blue is definitely preferred; but for women, a medium shade of blue is ideal. Grey pinstripe has been associated with projecting wisdom. Green, particularly olive and can project flexibility and friendliness.
  3. Bright colors like red, turquoise, purple, bright blues, and greens and fuchsia are sexy, energetic, hard-charging, and aggressive. They are generally  not considered as professional as darker colours, or lighter shades of colors.
  4. Lighter shades of blue, green, and yellow, as well as tan and beige, convey a sense of warmth, friendliness, approachability and trustworthiness. They do not communicate the same sense of authority, power, or leadership that dark blues or greys project. Subtle tones, however, can be very effective to combine friendliness and professionalism. Certain shades of tan can remind people of government employees and come across as dated or institutional.
  5. Autumn colors-like rust, brown, muted shades of yellow or gold, olive and burgundy are perceived as trustworthy, caring and humble, but lacks in the strength, competency and leadership categories.
  6. Pastels are the most feminine of all colors. Not surprisingly, stereotypical feminine traits are associated with them, such as caring and nurturing on the positive side, and weakness and vulnerability on the negative. Not a good choice if you want to be viewed as serious, intelligent, competent, and professional.

3 Shoe Colors That Get You Noticed

Did you know that your outfit, you know, that one particular match/piece that you select to wear whether it be to work, to meet the girls or for a date makes a very bold statement and did you know that your outfit would be absolutely nothing if you don't have the perfect color shoe to accentuate it?  Surprised? You shouldn't be. If they are well-coordinated with the color of your clothes the will make a statement that will get you noticed amongst all several other women in the room.

There are 3 colors of shoes that are ranking the highest on the charts to take your look, and your outfit to the next level. I'll share with you the color, how to wear it and tell you why this particular shoe color is recommended, but most importatntly what it describes in a womans personality. For the summer season, I highly recommend all colors to be worn with open toes. Fall and winter definately closed toe. Its sexy and appealing to ones eyes. The size of the heel shouldn't matter if the look is captured. Personally, I wouldn't recommend wearing flats though or anything under a 3 inch heel.

Make certain though that you get your pedi because your toe nail polish can make or break your entire look. Lets just assume that your social function is that of importance, so when selecting your shoe, not only is it important to understand the event that you are going to be attending, but one should tie it in with the outfit for that particular season/occassion. I always accuentate my outfit but I never forget the most important.....the lingerie under the outfit. What they see on the surface looks sexy but how you feel underneathe the layers makes a statement all of its own.

# 1 BLACK

Black is the CLASSIC OR BASIC LOOK for sexy high heel shoes. If you aren't sure with the selection of color for your shoe, black high heels are mostly recommended to wear since this color always goes perfect with any color of your outfit. So you will never have a hard time in matching these shoes because of their flexibility to mix and match with just about any of your outfits or even any occasion. Black is also the color of INTELLECTUALISM, of ABSTINENCE, of DISCIPLINE. It's smart, it guarded and it is in a category all of its own. Black is not meant to be flashy, rather to constitute who you are as a woman and it defines your features personalizing you as a symbol of exquisite taste. It is simple, when worn with a little black dress, and a partical open toe is what says sexy. It represents you as well as the outfit that you have chosen. It will differentiate you from all others. When you select the proper style and cut of shoe it identfies who "you" are and this is a pretty big statement that you want to make, yet in a soft sopken way....it will scream attention, and add swager to your walk with confidence.

#2 RED

Do not underestimate the sex appeal of a red high heels shoe for if you do, you'll not see the value in what it stands for and what it says when you wear it. The color red represents life and fertility, but it's also associated with danger and death. Red is the color for passion and rage, love and war, also religious ceremonies. Red high heels shoe symbolizes BOLD, PASSIONATE, STRONG and INTENSE. If you decide to wear red high heels shoe, be careful with selection of your outfit. It will most definately make a statement and people will certainly take notice when they see you in red shoes. In fact, they'll remember the style of the shoes, the heel, the height and the look far before they can tell you what the outfit was all about. Choose a red dress or have a red motif and wear it in the night (evening hours) Red says fresh, frisky and full of fire. It says dashing, determined, and dynamic. Red is aggressive and make you look lively! Add some red lipstick to your make up foundation and it will pull the look together quite well.

#3 WHITE

Your typical white high heels shoe is SEXY, PLAIN, SIMPLE and this is a color that MAKES YOU LOOK YOUNGER. Yep, it screams youth! White high heels shoe always catches the eye first, it becomes the first thing you notice about a person. It is suggested not to pair them with dark bottoms or they’ll look a bit too stark and out of place. All them to blend in somewhat but choose a pair that is sassy and unique that will catch ones eye! Pair them with a white or any light color suit. White high heels is work well in the summer or daytime. they are worn with elegance for social events. Never under estimate the power of white. It will give that one particular outfit the finishing touch,....the image that people will remember. Adding a decorative touch to the shoe will also show class, and distinction. It will define your character, show your strength, nonetheless your softer side by being catchy enough to get noticed. This color, if wore properly will give style to your outfit the flair. With white you are never taking a gander, rather making a statement that says I've just manifested my look in a non verbal way. You need not wear a high heel to grab the attention, for this piece will establish itself as an eye catcher if you can pull it off! Something to keep in mind...it doesn't matter if your shoes cost $19.99 or $900.....it's all in the style you choose for that particular event/evening and how it accents your attire.
