Women, Wine and Personality


Liquor or wine? Many people wonder; which do women prefer? I always question this especially since I  am a women. My question is; "What are women thinking when they are out and order a drink?" Basically, why do they choose a particular blend/brand?  I can go back and forth between martinis and wine, but I do not drink beer. It doesn't mesh with who I am. So tell me then, "What tickles your fancy?"
As women, we are the sex that makes up nearly 60 percent of U.S. wine consumers according to the Beverage Information Group’s 2011 Wine Handbook. Does this surprise you? It shouldn't. Recently, global giant Treasury Wine Estates launched four wines under the “Be.” label: Flirty, a pink moscato; Bright, a pinot grigio; Fresh, an unoaked chardonnay; and Radiant, a riesling.

On the contrary to what this company has to say, there is another contender in the running that I am keeping my eye on that also compares your personality to the selection of wine that best describes 'you.'  With so many choices, what typically assists us in choosing what alcoholic beverages we buy to drink? I did a little research of my own. Women say they buy wine to go with food, to relax, to drink with friends, and basically to just have fun and unwind after a long day. Men, on the other hand say they drink for health, but...off the record, they admit they buy wines that will impress their friends.
Women from where I stand have a lot to deal with as far as their careers, looks and styles, so wouldn’t you think that what you order and put in your mouth speaks volume about what type of woman you are? Recently I learned that according to the new “girly-wine” brand marketers, they stated that women want to be flirty, enticing and skinny. Isn't that labeling women? According to research studies they suggested that we like tossing our hair playfully…so wouldn’t it simply make sense that we select our bottles to match moods, not the foods. 
Regardless of what it is that we crave, there is a wine for you whether it be an easy-sipping flavor with just enough kick or a naughty edge of sassy sweetness...but not all women want the same wine.Why is it that marketers try to mold a certain image of what the woman should look like that drinks their product? Seems to me that if they do this they are cutting out a large portion of the market of women who consume their products which in turn lowers the sales? No? That would be like me selling only lingerie for women from size OS to Large. What about the beautiful plus size woman that is equally the same just a different shape/size? By marketing your products so that all women can enjoy them seems to be the smart route to take. Marketing is everything in our society. In the past few years, the wine world has finally discovered that women drinkers are a coveted customer niche. Does this surprise you? It certainly shouldn't. Women state that they are fond of three things; candles, lingerie and good wine. These items should all be sold with the woman in mind, including her personality. No two women are alike, but we do tend to enjoy the same things, and we select each of these according to our inner beauty and our personalities.
