Cellulite...and How to Get Rid of It

Embarrassing and unsightly, most all of us have it, or at least a little bit of it somewhere on our bodies. The truth at hand is that no one likes cellulite. But while most people have no trouble identifying it, scant few understand exactly what cellulite is. Do you understand what it is and where it was derived from? is a typical female characteristic. Nature is the main culprit to blame about the subcutaneous accumulations of fats that violate women’s comfort. The adipose tissue constitutes about 25% of the total weight of the women while with men this value is only about 12%. Female organism is designed to accumulate reserves to be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding in hunger occur.

Cellulite is fat that protrudes out from the lower layers of skin into the dermis, or outer layer of the skin. Cellulite gives a dimpled appearance to the skin, often grotesquely described as a “cottage cheese” look. Commonly cellulite is seen on the thighs, and lower legs, though it can appear elsewhere, like on your ass!

Surprisingly, modern science still knows very little about the cause or causes of cellulite. We do know, however that between 85% and 98% of women (that’s almost all women) have at least some cellulite somewhere on their bodies. So, contrary to popular misconception, then, and despite how used to seeing cellulite on obese people we may be, cellulite is not a derivative of being overweight.

Science has also observed that cellulite is less common in men, leading many researchers to believe there is hormonal component to its formation. Prevailing theories suggest that the appearance of cellulite could be related to one’s diet, more specifically the ingestion of large amount of trans-fats as well as foods like pasta, white bread, and other foods heavy in white flour. Again, this is suspected, but not yet “known” or proven.
As is the case whenever a perceived new problem arises in our culture, manufacturers scamper to produce and release countless products targeting the cellulite-afflicted. You’ll find gels, lotions, pills and more all promising to rid you of that unsightly cellulite. Do they work? So far there’s nothing but anecdotal evidence supporting these products at best. My guess is that hundreds of companies are making millions on people like you and me that buy these particular products to 'try' to fix the issue at hand. There are leading causes that do attribute to cellulite are and there are remedies that they 'say' will help to rid your body of this awful feeling like you are carrying around with you jello jigglers.

Methylxanthines

Methylxanthines are a group of chemicals that include aminophylline, caffeine, and theophyilline. These chemicals are present in many cellulite creams and are promoted as treatments for cellulite because of their known ability to break down fat stores. However, skin creams cannot deliver the required concentration of these chemicals for the length of time required for significant fat breakdown. While studies have shown a small reduction in thigh measurements with some of these preparations, they do not promote significant loss of cellulite.

Dietary supplements: Several of these products have been marketed and contain a variety of ingredients such as sweet clover, grape-seed bioflavinoids, bladder wrack extract, oil of evening primrose, fish oil, and soy lecithin. These preparations claim to have positive effects on the body such as boosting metabolism, improving circulation, protecting against cell damage, and breaking down fats. Such claims are difficult to evaluate as is the case with similar assertions made on behalf of many supplements and alternative therapies. Concepts such as "metabolism," "circulation," or "cell damage" cannot be easily measured on an objective basis to determine whether or not any improvement has been achieved. Additionally, because these products are sold as dietary supplements and not as drugs, they are not subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). They are therefore exempt from meeting the scientific standards for both safety and effectiveness that are applied to drugs. Furthermore, there are no valid clinical studies to support the use of these dietary supplements for the treatment of cellulite.

Laser or light therapy: The FDA has approved two light-therapy devices that combine suction or massage with light therapy for the temporary reduction of the appearance of cellulite. TriActive is a treatment that combines a low-level laser treatment with suction and manipulation of the skin, while VelaSmooth is a treatment combining laser and massage therapy.

Wraps: Many salons offer herbal or other types of body wraps as treatments for cellulite. Like cellulite diets, their effects have not been proven or reported in controlled studies in the medical literature. While wraps may decrease fluid retention and improve the overall appearance of skin, these effects are temporary. It is also not possible to "detoxify" the body by the use of herbal or other wraps.

Another false hope in the battle against cellulite is liposuction, the removal of fat from the body through surgery. Guess what? On the contrary to what many people think...liposuction does not suck out cellulite. Some sufferers have found that certain kinds of massage may produce a temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite on the body, but not a reduction in the actual existence of it. This is because there are no blood vessels in subcutaneous fat, so when the body is massaged and circulation below the skin is stimulated, the surface of the skin appears smoothed out. Massage, then, is only a superficial solution to cellulite, and one with effects lasting only for the short term.

The only steps so far that have shown to make any real and lasting reduction in cellulite are the same steps advised for proper and effective weight loss: a healthy lifestyle. Eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, and getting plenty of both exercise and rest seems to be the only known remedy for unsightly and embarrassing cellulite. It’s not reinventing the wheel, and it’s no quick fix, trust me on this one. It just takes time. When you pay attention to your body and drink more water, you flush these toxins out and after a while you will feel better, and you'll lose weight, thus leading to a lot of the reason for unwanted cellulite. Cellulite is your bodies way of crying out for help, so get rid of it today!

Do You Have Cellulite?

Cellulite – The worst thing that any woman could have and experience that's so damn hard to get rid of....So what it is exactly, and how does one get it? It’s that ugly little problem that causes your skin to wrinkle up and look like an orange peel. Has it happened to you? Hey listen, I'm, 48 not a dinosaur. I want to stay looking good, not gross and frumpy...you should too. So what its it and how the hell do we get rid of it? Oh if there were a magic pill for this I would own the patent to it for sure! No one is 100 percent sure what causes cellulite, but it appears to originate from our own female hormone. In fact, nearly 98% of girls develop at least a small amount of cellulite after reaching puberty. Those back-stabbing hormones of ours seem to be triggered during adolescence, when they begin laying down fat, particularly in the hips and the thighs, by enlarging cells, and let me tell you...it gets worse as we age. Lymph fluids then gradually pass through the tissue and accumulate in areas with poor circulation. The fat then becomes compressed and starts to harden into lumps. Over time, these lumps are visible through the skin. As we get older, our skin and hormones continue to change and it can get worse. Isn't that just great?

Some experts believe that certain lifestyle factors, such as lack of exercise and taking in high levels of toxins, like alcohol and coffee, increase the likelihood of developing cellulite. Bearing this in mind, the best way to treat cellulite is to live a healthy lifestyle and avoid getting it altogether. Me go a day without a can of COKE? Are you serious?

Of course, avoiding getting cellulite isn’t necessarily all that easy. For some women, developing cellulite is simply the result of genetics, a part of the aging process, or due to pregnancy. Furthermore, many of us already have it and just want to know how to get rid of it.

One way to get rid of cellulite is through exercise. Sitting for long periods of time decreases our body’s circulation. In fact, the most stubborn cellulite deposits are often located right in the area where the leg meets the chair while sitting, most likely because this is the area where the circulation was cut off.
A sluggish circulatory makes it more difficult for the blood and the lymphatic system to send oxygen around the system and to remove toxins. Therefore, regular exercise that can is brisk, yet gentle, is one way to treat cellulite. Swimming and walking are great ways to do this.

Cellulite can also be treated with skin brushing and massage. These forms of treatment help to clear and cleanse the lymphatic system by speeding up circulation. This, in turn, gets rid of cellulite that has been building up for a long time in the body cells. A wooden brush with a long handle is needed for skin brushing. To perform skin brushing successfully, the brushing should be done in an upward direction with firm sweeping strokes. The process should begin at the soles of the feet and gradually move upward on the body. Special attention should be paid to areas that are prone to cellulite. In these areas, the brush strokes should follow a small, circular pattern. Over brushing, however, can irritate the skin and cause reddening.

Weight loss and drinking plenty of water can also help in treating cellulite. Accumulated toxins need to be flushed from the system in order to restore skin tone. The liver, in particular, needs to be cleansed as its job is to help the body filter out toxins. In addition, weight gain will only cause cellulite to worsen. On the other hand, weight loss in a person who is overweight can help decrease the appearance of cellulite. In addition to these methods, there are several creams and lotions available on the market that claim to aid in the reduction of cellulite. Some of these creams can be costly and have little proven effect on the reduction of cellulite.

A more invasive means of treating cellulite is the use of surgery. Cellulite treatment surgeries, such as liposuction, are available which are capable of removing inches of collected fatty tissue from various parts of the body, including the abdomen, legs, arms, back, neck, and face. Who has the monies for this? Its not covered by insurance because its cosmetic. Isn't that just peachy?

Fact: Liposuction does not, however, change the structure of the skin. Therefore, it does not eliminate cellulite forever. In addition, as with any surgery, liposuction has risks. Also, it will not result in the “perfect” body – and it’s not cheap, either. Therefore, it is important to become well-educated about cellulite treatment surgeries before plunging into this form of cellulite treatment.

The dreaded cellulite is very unattractive and no woman is happy to discover a new deposit on her body. Therefore, the best line of defense is prevention – drink plenty of water and exercise regularly to keep your circulation flowing and your body free of toxins. This may help. If anyone has a better idea or more tips, please share them with me so that I can pass them on to other women.

How to Get Rid of that Nasty Cellulite!

What Is Cellulite?

fatty deposits beneath the skin that give a lumpy or grainy appearance to the skin surface, especially on the thighs or buttocks
cel·lu·lite
1) fatty deposits just beneath skin:

Cellulite is a term that is used to describe fat deposits under the skin that outwardly give the skin a dimpled, or orange-peel like appearance. I call it fatty cottage cheese or dimples. Where are they found? Well, on most women, this is found on there thigh areas and their buttocks. Now, we all love a little behind cushion, but there is quite a big difference in cushion and plain old fatty tissue.

No one wants bumps in their behind. Cellulite is most often seen in women because the fat is arranged in large chambers separated by columns of collagen fibers.Fibrous strands of tissue connect your skin to deeper tissue layers, creating compartments of ordinary fat cells. When the fat cells increase in size, the compartments bulge and produce the dimpling appearance on your skin, and you ask can it get worse than this? Of course it can, but this can be worked on and as you increase exercise and in some cases lose weight, it diminishes. If you happen to have dimples or cellulite, don't wear white pants, skirts, shorts, no no no! Wear something solid that will take the focus off of your tush. You want to look blended, you don't want to stand out or feel uncomfortable. Cellulite isn't something that any particular man or women gets, in fact, anyone can turn around and one day see things that you didn't realize you had,..mine was when I was trying on swimwear at a department store...when I looked in that we way mirror I wanted to die.

In overweight people excess fat is stuffed in these compartments causing them to bulge out. On the surface of the skin, the bulging provides the dimply appearance of cellulite, especially in areas such as the hips, buttocks or thighs. Oddly enough, cellulite is predetermined by genetics so even thin women can develop the appearance. Factors such as hormones, pregnancy, and aging may all attribute to the weakening of the collagen fibers to give the cellulite appearance.

Even people diagnosed as the “morbidly obese” are not necessarily genetically pre-disposed to cellulite and may display no symptoms at all. It is important to note that even though it is unsightly, cellulite is normal for many women and some men as well. The dimpling appears to be less obvious when the subject has thicker skin which further enforces the genetic predisposition. As the body ages, the skin becomes thinner and there is nothing that can be done for that natural aging process.

Treatments? You bet I have some for you!

There are many expensive massage treatments for cellulite reduction. However, you can follow the same method in your very own home. It's called dry brushing. Buy a shower brush with soft bristles and massage it over problem areas for ten minutes a day. Make sure you massage your skin while it is dry and in circular rotations. This technique not only feels good but it helps remove toxins from the body, improve blood circulation and muscle tone. It also aids in the breakdown of cellulite and helps reduce that jiggle.

Caffeine when applied topically is an extremely powerful ingredient in cellulite creams because of its ability to shrink fat cells. A great way to reduce cellulite at home is to create your own cellulite-reducing coffee scrub. Simply warm coffee grounds and apply them to problem areas with a wash cloth. Next wrap the area with plastic wrap for ten to fifteen minutes. Water helps to leach the caffeine and other alkaloids out of the coffee and the cloth keeps them close to your skin. The warmth of the water helps to open your pores and absorb caffeine, which reduces cellulite by stimulating circulation and helping the body shed fluids. When you feel unsexy, it shows. We're affordable and want you to look and feel confident and sexy without breaking your bank.

I've heard of some people who leave the coffee against their skin for up to an hour -- but you should be warned, even though this is a great cellulite reduction method, it can temporarily stain your skin brown!

Squats are a fundamental exercise to firm our common problem areas. However, most people forget a second step which works to reduce cellulite. After squatting, women should place their weight on one leg then another, sort of like rocking side to side. This helps to work the muscles that line the outsides of your thighs. Unless you're an ice skater you probably don't use these muscles very often. This addition to the squat aids in cellulite reduction on both legs. Building muscle helps in cellulite reduction by eliminating fat -- which obviously contributes to cellulite. A great way to build muscle is eating a little protein each day. Now, this doesn't mean you should go and eat a bunch of peanut butter! Choose your protein from sensible sources for optimal cellulite reduction.

Another effective cellulite scrub is a salt scrub. Try rubbing cellulite affected areas with Epsom salts (you can usually find this in the drugstore) while in the shower. The salts extract trapped moisture from your cellulite while stimulating circulation. This anti-cellulite scrub also helps firm and tighten skin which aids in cellulite reduction. But remember not to scrub too hard -- you can easily injure your skin.So now that I've given you some ways to gt rid of that nasty old cellulite, give one or two a try and then let me know if they worked for you so that I can share with others. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions. We'd love to hear from you!
