Measuring Yourself Properly For Your Bridal Gown

When you are shopping for bridal gowns, there is one very important question that is monumental, at least in my opinion it is, and that is; "do you know how to take correct measurements?" Measuring yourself properly ensures that your wedding dress will look elegant. Your bridal gown flowing perfectly on your magical day is imperative. Photos will be flashing, and you will be the center of everyones attention. Your bridal gown and your wedding photos are keepsakes forever.

My advice is quite simple; don't try to do this yourself. Have a family member or a friend take your measurements. There is a difference in measuring your full bust, your under and upper bust. If your bust size is listed improperly and your gown zips up the back, you may find yourself in a bit of a pickle as if your breasts are larger than what you stated, you'll be busting out at the seams and sister, that won't be pretty,it'll be a disaster!

Make sure that your hip measurements are right. Don't be shy about your measurements for heaven sakes, this is no time to bend the truth about size. For your wedding dress if you make note of, or take improper measurements of your hips it can come back to haunt you especially if you are having a custom made mermaid bridal gown made, then you're in trouble! Your legs will barely be able to move and you may just fall over because the dress was tailored too tight. You can't walk down the aisle if you can barely move in a tight dress, so be true to your measurements.

One last tip; measure your height with the bridal shoes on that you will be wearing with your bridal gown. If you don't your dress will be too short! I don't know about you but I'd much rather have my gown a bit longer than undersized.

Don't Forget the Bridal Petticoat!

This year oodles of women will be getting married and with so much to do preparing for the wedding, you want to make sure of two things; 1) that you find a beautiful wedding dress and 2) that you buy a good petticoat to wear underneath the bridal gown so that the dress will look as exquisite on you as it did on the mannequin that you saw it on when you chose it.

Today, many women think that buying the wedding gown alone is enough when in fact, they forget all of the little details that go along with the bridal attire. My first glimpse to the petticoat was in my younger childhood days when I watched 'Petticoat Junction' a 1960s television series at my grandmothers house where the opening sequence displayed three petticoats hanging out over the side of a railroad water tank where three sisters were skinny-dipping. Some women don't even know what a petticoat is when you ask them, but if you know fashion, you know petticoats.

By the mid 20th century the petticoats were being replaced by the slim fitting slip. Petticoats still are the best means (in my opinion) to give your bridal gown the desired range of fullness that it needs, so by all means please don't skimp on the petticoat when you've spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on the wedding dress itself. These two go together like peanut butter and jelly. You really shouldn't have one without the other.
